They should've flagged PJ too- for not blocking anybody on that play.

    Thank you, LSUpride123, I couldn't believe a flag wasn't thrown.

That would have drawn a fine in the NFL.

I couldn't get that vision out of my head for a few days... led with the helmet for sure.

That would not be a flag or fine in the NFL and shouldn't be in college either. He put his helmet in Metts chest. Mett lowered his head to brace for impact so HE actually created any helmet clashing that occurred. Hard hit but a clean play.

And how is that spearing when he never left his feet or launched himself into the tackle?

Mett got his cock knocked into his watch pocket. It happens. Bet he didnt buy the o-line dinner after that game...

Pretty sure they can't lead with the crown of helmet.

Also pretty sure they don't have to leave the ground to be considered a "spear".

Guess that means I'm pretty sure you're wrong.

I'm pretty sure you'll be pissed.

I do know, however, that I don't give a dam.

Sorry dude but that should have been a penalty. And I have to disagree about the NFL. They are very quick to make that call in the big leagues where player's contracts are worth millions and their value to team revenues are even higher. Here are a couple of rules clarifications for you from the NCAA:

Defenseless Player: Contact to Head or Neck Area
ARTICLE 4. No player shall target and initiate contact to the head or neck area
of a defenseless opponent with the helmet, forearm, elbow or shoulder. When
in question, it is a foul (Rules 2-27-14 and 9-6).

Notice this gives the referee some additional incentive to protect players. "When in question, it is a foul". So in this case the ref should have tossed the flag because this play would qualify as "in question". The player's safety has got to come first.

“No player shall use his helmet (including the face mask) to butt or ram an opponent or attempt to punish him. There shall be no spearing. No player shall strike a runner with the crown or the top of his helmet in an attempt to punish him.”

So by your own posting of the rule...where exactly was Mett defenseless? He was not. Also was not to his head or neck area. Mett created that contact by lowering his helmet. That was not a penalty and shouldn't have been called. It should've been picked up and avoided.

    Good non-call.
