Sorry guys I don't post much but read the boards often. After watching the game last night it was tough. I felt for the team as they played hard but still just can't seem to get back to that point early in the season when the defense seemed stout. Anyhow I gotta think if you give up 50 you kinda make it hard on yourself to win even though LSU offense has shown it can score that many points easily. I read where Arkansas stated that after watching numerous films of LSU on defense they saw a fault in LSU defense defending against mobile QB's. You would think that LSU defensive coaches would be able to spot this and fix it or makes me wonder if they did realize this weakness and couldn't fix the problem because of lack of talent or lack of defensive coordinator not really giving a damn. I don't know but Pellini has just seemed to put for such a lack luster defensive scheme this season. You would think that anyone wanting to land a Head coaching job would do better scheming than what has been shown. Maybe he already knows he has a gig come end of season and is just going through the motions. B
It was the defense's inability to make adjustments as the game goes on.Mobile QB, problem surfaced against Va-Tech when they scored their only touch down as soon as their mobile QB came in.Tebow gave this defense trouble, last week it was Schaffer and then it was Mcfadden. One could have hoped that they would have learned and made adjustments.Either the coaches were too proud or just plain stupid.
I know the defense has come under a lot of criticism, and justifiably so. But the offense lost this game in the first half. We should have scored 2 or 3 TDs, but had to settle for 2 field goals.
We can pass the blame around and make a sound argument for both sides. But as mentioned in the other thread 4th & 10 and you leave a man uncovered for and easy first down? On the 2pt conversion they should have stuck to their bread and butter Hester and go up the middle instead of throwing it wasn't as if we needed 10 yards. That was an awful play call by Crowton or Miles whoever went with it.
The offense did not lose this game. The team ultimately lost it together. But if you're gonna blame one side, it was the DEFENSE. 500+ total yards and a 200+ yard rushing QB/RB. At least with the offense, they mentioned that Arkansas was playing some kind of zone they hadn't seen before and it took them a little while to get going. The D knew what was coming and couldn't stop it. But they O scored 28 points and that should always be enough to get your team a W at home in Tiger Stadium. The O woke up; the D fell asleep and never woke up. That was the difference.
