Yes, I am glad we won. Obvious. But we have a real problem at the offensive line folks. They SUCK horribly. They can't pass block and they can't run block. I even question their genitalia. These guys just don't have the attitude or meanness to compensate for their average physical size and ability. I hope Crowton can utilize our skill positions to compensate for the oline's crappy play because we will not dominate the line this year. One thing is for sure. You can pretty much ignore anything Les says to the press because he was jabbering a bunch of BS about how great this oline was preseason and this is the worst LSU oline I've seen in at least 10 years.
I wouldn't say they have played great. They have played fairly mediocre up to this point and not well enough to win big SEC games. I would say the play calling by Crowton ranks below the play the offensive line. It continued tonight. Shepard obviously has exactly 1 play call reserved for him and won't fool Florida for sure as he could easily be a non factor. That's a shame. I don't remember much Scott and Williams combo as I hoped for and quick pitchouts wide to Williams is again, obviously not in our playbook nor will ever be. That's also a shame. Reuben Randle should have had some quick easy designed plays to get him the ball and get him some confidence. We need all the targets possible for Jefferson. We finally got the ball to Dickson over the middle. That's a good thing (although it stopped after being successful early). I would rate the offensive line a C or C- up to this point. I would rate the offensive play calling a D+. I would rate the play of Jefferson as a C+.
I actually uttered this exact statement at least 5 times tonight. Inexcusable. Going to be a very long season.:nope:
The O line is the reason Tennessee stuck with Florida today, and we dont get way better offensive line play, the Florida game is going to be rough. This line is good, they haven't played to their potential yet. Hopefully we are just sleepwalking through these first 4 games before UGA. That is going to be where Miles earns his money, we will see in Athens how much heart this O Line has.
The OC is trying to tailor the offense too much to personnel. When the personnel comes in the game they know what the offense is going to do. He switched things up maybe about 4 plays tonight that he wouldn't normally do. Most of the play calling is obvious from personnel. It worked the first year but after three years everyone can see what you are doing. The offense should be able to run 90% of the offense regardless of the personnel you have on the field. The best play call of the night was the Lee pass for a TD. Defense didn't have a clue. You can't be scared for your players... the OC did it last year and now he is doing it again this year.
And it's conceivable that our OC knows all of that, don't you think? So if he does, what reason(s) could explain it? I can think of a good one - if I'm right, we'll find out against Georgia.
