Yeah, but it took Lee only one season to accomplish what one guy did in a whole career.

I keep hearing this from various posters. I guess it's caught on like wildfire.

Just who knows for sure that we are running just 5 offensive plays? I saw a lot of variety out there today with the passing game. Rolling right, throwing to the tight end over the middle, faking left and passing right, boot legs, fake into the line and then step back and throw it, crossing route over the middle, out patterns, a pass to the FB running a fly pattern down the right sideline. The only thing I saw eliminated was the screen play, and that was probably due to the problems we have had with executing it all year long.

I am not buying the fact that Jefferson has been with this program for over 5 months and only knows 5 pass plays.

It seems that most of the people saying this are the same ones who were defending Lee to the hilt. Now that JJ is proving how much better he is, and how wrong Miles was about JJ, this is what is being resorted to.

Sure, he doesn't know the play book that well, but those "5" plays sure worked well enough to put 30 points on the board. It wasn't until LSU went totally conservative and changed the play calling in the second half that JJ's success totally fell off.

Ugh. We invoked the name of Jamie Howard too today when we were watching the game. :sob:

I've said a couple of times that this defense reminds me of Tepper's with the DBs and LBs looking at each other and shrugging after a big play. They just don't seem to know what to do and who to cover.

I don't buy that that's a problem. Wasn't it the great Packers' teams of Vince Lombardi that were supposed to have run only less than a dozen plays and still won championships. If everybody does his job, the play's successful.

Absolutely right. It looked like he was trying to say, when he came off, that he had been poked in the eye or something, but guess what? I DON'T CARE. The play was over and they had to punt. You're senior. Play smarter than that and we just might win this f'ing game. :angryfire:angryfire:angryfire

I want to win. I am not a JL fan, but I am realistic when talking about Jefferson. He looked okay today. Not great, not really good. Okay. 9-21 against a bad Arkansas defense (Last in the SEC in EVERY defensive statistic). Not only a bad defense, but a defense that zoned in on the run. Not as bad as our defense, clearly, but bad. Two true freshmen cornerbacks (if I remember correctly). All of that, and LSU barely gets 300 yards of total offense. How could that be? After our last touchdown, we had 6 possessions and gained a grand total of 5 yards. Not only that, but in those 6 possessions, THREE of them started on Arkansas' side of the field! Granted, one was that last 21 seconds.

I noticed this last week that with Jefferson in, each play got more and more predictable. It is harder to notice on TV, because you can't focus in on WRs.

There were the same very few routes run by receivers out of certain formations. Crowton got in a rhythm of a series of plays, and it worked at first, but any defensive coordinator not named Malleveto can make adjustments and get him out of that rhythm. Strangely enough, we were complaining that LSU has been consistently starting out games very slow offensively, and we do the exact opposite today.

I thought Jefferson looked good (all things considered). He ran the ball very well and got us a few first downs at times when it looked like we'd get nothing. He didn't have much of a running game to work with even when they didn't have a bunch of people at the line. The majority of his passes were very sharp and we also had about four other passes that should have been caught. His TD passes were great. I don't remember seeing him throw any gigantic dead ducks that should have been interceptions. His off-target passes were thrown hard, so the defenders did not have an easy time trying to make INTS. even when they had a slight chance. That's important. He didn't make any huge boneheaded plays and didn't have any turnovers on the road.

We could have done more on offense, but you can thank our great coaching for that. Three passes to Q. Johnson while Holliday gets a whopping three carries. 3rd and 1 pretty deep in Arkansas territory with 38 seconds before half and we throw a bomb in the endzone. 3rd and 12 and we run a QB draw. We need first downs at the end and we're running Scott up the middle in a very predictable set that has got us nothing all game. Jefferson did his job well and we put up 30 points in his first start. You should win with 30 points.

He was wide open for all three of them, and he dropped two of them.

I agree with you, JJ is better, and would be even better at this point of the season had he been player sooner and would know more of the playbook - many of us learn faster "on the job". If JLee only had two years in HS football, how could JJ be considered more "raw" than JLee?

Regarding the original threads subject of "undisciplined team", I do not agree with that fully. Saban's teams led the league/nation year after year in penalties, and they made their fair share of mistakes, but were talented enough to overcome them. In college football, you will see a lot more of these frustrating penalties and mistakes. Coaching is part of it, but a public university is not exactly getting 85 kids raised in perfect structured, disciplined environments, which is why this is a common frustration between past and present LSU teams. The difference is this year we did not necessarily do what it took to overcome them, though we were close in several games.
