I just wanted to share something that I've been thinking about for a while now (I hope I don't get too romantic). I don't know about the rest of the Southland, but I do know that here in North Florida, or at least what I've seen. All the Gator fans, some FSU fans. and yes even some UGA fans, have been very kind to this old Tiger. It seems everyone I know down here for one night have become Tiger fans! I go out with my LSU cap on, and lately I get a round of "Geaux Tigers" or "Kick that Azz" etc. With all due respect to tOSU, football just seems to mean a whole lot more down here. I've heard it said before that in the south, football is a religion. It believe thats true! But this game means a lot more to Louisiana than it does to Ohio. I don't mean to put down tOSU or their fans, so please don't misunderstand. A lot of our folks down home have been through a lot. Katrina still hurts, and the repercussions of it are being felt to this day. But, for a moment, for a few hours tonight the LSU Tigers, can still to this day, make a difference. Should we win, all the bad things will fade even further into memory. Its hard to believe that on the same field the Saints play on every Sunday, and the same field the Tigers will take tonight, people actually died on! So does this game mean a lot to us. Its a lot more than just a piece of crystal. So on behalf of everyone I know down here in Florida a BIG "Geaux Tigers". God bless you boys, you've given us Tiger fans one hell of a year to remember. Now, WIN THIS THING!!!! :crystal::crystal::crystal: :LSU231:
I thought of that also... But let's not forget the depressed people of Cleveland, the mistake by the lake. How many cities can set a river on fire?
I am so pumped, I wore my LSU polo and hat to work today, I tried to keep it corporate on a Monday as much as I could. However, it is 3:00 PM, where I am, south florida, I have seen alot of Buckeye fans, not many LSU fans, where i am, i havent seen them. Well one night coming home about 4 AM, Im pretty sure I was half drunk ( Dont drink and drive). I pulled up to a light and a truck was next to me, so I hit my brights and i saw all this LSU football stickers all over the truck, this was about November, so I honked my horn and stuck my hat and some other LSU stuff out of the window. The guy pulled over at a gas station, I followed, we had a hour long conversation. Although my wife wasnt to happy about me coming in at 5 Am, but she did believe the LSU story. I am watching the game tonight at a bar, with 2 good friends of mine who went to Bama ( dont ask frat brothers). In deciding where to watch the game, i picked a place where there are alot of gator fans and oh st fans. I am surely going to get thrown out of the bar tonight, win or lose. I will be thrown out of the bar tonight.... Probably wont make it to work tomorrow and aggravate the hell out of my wife when I get home with my wheel chair coaching. with that said!:geaux:
Yes, more SEC schools are more serious about football (to the point of being religious about it) than any other conference. But Ohio State is more serious about football (to the point of being religious about it) than any single SEC team (including LSU). That's what happens when you have one of the greatest programs in history. Fortunately, Ohio State people are very midwestern, plain types -- whereas Louisiana State people are more into partying (think Bourbon Street and Mardi Gras). I do think that LSU has the advantage when it comes to passion of the fans, and I do think that LSU had the advantage that more LSU fans will be at this game that OSU fans. But I don't agree that this game means a lot more to Louisiana than it does to Ohio. I think it means a lot more to Ohio State fans that it does to LSU fans. Why? Because LSU has had three great seasons in a row. We are on top of the world. Whereas OSU just went through one of the most devastating, humiliating defeats in college football history. In other words, if LSU loses this game, I don't think too many LSU fans are going to kill themselves. Whereas if OSU loses this game, it will be a dark, dark day in Ohio. As for the whole Katrina thing, that is old news down here in Louisiana. We put that behind us a long time ago. That has no impact on this game. The Katrina-inspired game was the Saints vs. Falcons return-to-the-Dome game almost two years ago.
Well put JohnLSU. I think it means as much to both. You guys because you're not as storied as us, but are just as passionate. And us, well, thats obvious.
Umm hmm. Football dosnt mean much around here, we just have 3 of the 5 largest stadiums in the country because they look pretty. Or why the whole northern mid-west on this fan map is grayed out with consensus data. http://www.commoncensus.org/sports_map.php?sport=5 Or why the state of Ohio itself has 8 Div 1A schools http://www.d1acollegefootball.com/ Or why we have just as many high school football teams in the super 25 http://www.usatoday.com/sports/preps/football/poll/2007-super25.htm So we pretty much think of football the same way as we do tennis. I mean I get what your saying with the whole Katrina thing, but you need to state it a little differently.
Thats a bit much wouldnt you say? We were only 7 point favorites against UF. I mean they kicked our butts and destroyed us but there have been a lot more shocking upsets just recently let alone history. I would say USC loosing to Stanford as 28 point fav. or Michigan losing to App. St. or even OU loosing to WV. is more shocking.
