not the coach-speak, "they're all big, Jim" , or "the next game is the biggest" stuff. We should win Saturday. Of course, State is due for a win vs LSU. I hate to say we were lucky because of the fantastic goal line stand we made at the end, but lets just say we were very, very fortunate. Plus those jokers have only beaten us once since 1991 and three times since 1984, so the law of averages is somewhat on their side. Still, we should win. Now, with LSU's success in the last 10 years, we've gone past the "win is a win" mindset from the Hallman days. And even though Croom started recruiting some good players and Mullen has the type of personality to bring them up, "Mississippi State" is still a pencilled in win each year for a while,at least. If we struggle with poor passing and questionable play calling and get in trouble on defense on third downs and pull out a 28-24 win in the fourth, its going to get hotter and hotter with the fanbase and maybe even players. We all know what the atmosphere will be like if Mississippi State wins. BUT, if the passing game comes togethor (maybe just by repetition or revamping of playbook) which will also open up the running game by keeping the DB's honest and the pass rush keeps it up on our side of the ball, we could win this game 38-10 ish. If that happens, look out. The self-confidence the team would get , and maybe even staff, could pave the way for a big season. I admit to being a shameless homer, sunshine pumper, but big whoop. Hopefully we'll rise to the occasion and get rolling back to Atlanta for a second time this season, and not for the Chik-Fil-A Bowl.
i think we're a better team than last season. i also think that this State team is probably about the same as Auburn was a year ago -- perhaps not even that good -- we all know what happened in that game, right? the players will be jacked since it's at home. i think we'll struggle sustaining drives at times in the game, but we'll win by three or four touchdowns on big plays alone. it may be relatively close until the fourth quarter, but it is what it is.
It is a big game. First game of the season in Tiger Stadium, and against a formidable SEC foe. Not saying a top tier, but one that does put up solid fights. I think that if we see a Tiger team that comes out jacked up and plays with confidence, consistency, and sound football this is what we might see: Offense - puts up 380+ yds, zero TO's, 24+ pts JJ - 180 + yds avg 8 yards/comp, 2 TD's, 0 int's and a 64%+ completion rate Run game - 180 + yds Defense - holds MSU to less than 250 total yds and 13 pts, gets 2.5+ sacks, 1 TO, holds to less than 100 yds rushing and less than 150 yds passing Special Teams - holds MSU to less than 10 yds per return and produces 20 + yds per return. If this is the type of game the Tigers have against MSU, which is what I completely anticipate will happen, we will be seeing the beginning of this team finally getting it and possibly moving toward being a dominant team for the rest of the season. If this is the type of game we see, this season very well could turn out to be waaaay better than many of us are anticipating. Here's to the Tigers getting it done in their first home game of the 2010 season, and finally quieting the doubters just a bit. :geaux: :LSU231: :geauxtige
Hell will freeze over if LSU drops a home opener to State and I mean it. On the bright side, that would mean Satan couldn't coach bama any more!
