UNC has an excellent D but they arent any better than UF or Bama. So its not like LSU will be up against an all time great D. I think UNC will be a tough game because of their D but Id favor LSU coming in. Just because they project high doesnt mean they will play well together. Sometimes kids will try to show off themselves too much at the cost of the team. Not saying UNC is doing that, but for all their top projections their D isnt by any means all time great. Its a very good D, but nothing special.
This point does indeed often get over looked. As my second favorite SEC team LSU should realize. Trouble with UNC, they haven't even fixed what's been broken. Butch Davis was expected to do what he's already accomplished at Miami. So far it looks more like what he got done at Cleveland. Being top dog in the ACC ain't that hard, at least win a division. Even GaTech has gotten in on the fun.Coming out of the spring, Davis wanted to make TJ Yates the starter at QB, but he was indecisive again and got outplayed on national TV by freshman Bryn Renner in their spring game. With 19 starters back in Davis 4th year at the helm, he knows his team needs to play well for the first time.
3 of 5 UNC's losses last year were by three points or less.... an impressive win on the road at Virginia Tech and at home against Miami (if that holds any weight to you) If Yates still starts next season he finished last season with 15 interceptions Only saw these guys play one game last year but wasn't impressed on either side of the ball really but hey who knows....
I'll take it. It won't be easy, that's for sure. Probably the biggest opening game since VTech. We certainly don't want it to end the same way.
I'm not saying this won't be a tough game, because it will be, but this whole matchup reminds me of the whole GT hype before the CF Bowl, and we all know how that turned out. Not saying it will be that type of blow out, but I think we will come out and handle UNC just fine.
Carolina has NFL talent all over the field on defense. To be honest by seasons end there may be more in the first round than 5. DT Marvin Austin, LBS Quan Sturdivant and Bruce Carter, C Kendric Burney and Charles Brown, and S Deunta Williams are all 1st round strong possibilities. But underclassmen Tydreke Powell, Donte Moss, Quinton Coples, and Robert Quinn are all along the dline are subject to go pro too. DE Robert Quinn may be at least equal to Peppers before its all said and done. Watch some film if you laugh at that statement. The thing that will make UNC's defense so good this year is the ability to sub the dline in and out without losing much. Carolina has 8 stout defensive linemen. Also at the LB spots UNC has backups in Dion Guy, and Shane Murlarkey that are in waiting to be the next big thing. Carolina also has a starting LB that runs a sub 4.4 40 in Zach Brown. So yes the defense could be scary but you know if the offense struggles all year it puts the defense in a hole. Like vs Georgia Tech last year is a great example. Carolina overall to me played the best all around defense since 1997-98. LSU always has a good defense and i expect a grind of a game on Sept 4. The team that breaks through in the fourth quarter with 1 big score will win i think.
:angryfireo::angryfireo::angryfire No comparison to the ratpack of nc stunk or MooU. They have beaten us 3 years in a row and im patiently waiting for this years game.
In my short experience, almost every team that has a ton of preseason hype never lives up to that hype. This is just another SEC vs ACC matchup. They may be pretty talented by ACC standards, but we still out match them in every category, except maybe D-Line. LSU rolls right over UNC. In part because we are more talented, in part because Miles will have his team ready to fight by game 1. His job depends on it. Just my opinion. Like it or hate it.
