You're not even on the same continent as the mark if you think winning the SEC championship game once every ten years is enough for today's LSU fan. Yes, many of us remember the dark years of LSU football but that was then and this is now. As dark as those years were, our recent college football dominance is every bit as great. LSU is on another level now and given the resources including Louisiana's high school talent, there is no reason to expect anything other than what we now know LSU Football to be; A top 10 program that should be competing for the SEC championship every year.
You and I may agree on your position. Let's start with the premise that you and I agree on your position. Now let's change the focus to another issue: Is the LSU fanbase at large of a different mind set than you and I? Are you sure that I have not described their expectations accurately? I believe that I have. I believe that I have described the desires/expectations of the LSU fanbase at large accurately. I have an open mind to be convinced otherwise, so, I do encourage you to write about this issue: I believe that the LSU fanbase expectation, as a whole, is fairly moderate and certainly not high. Most seem happy with 10-2 this season and second place, after three years of this same struggling offense. And I close with the emphasis that I wish that you would convince me otherwise.
Are you suggesting that LSU should be in the Top 10 every year, and that winning 10 games is not an above average season? And most years, a two loss season would mean competing for the SEC championship.. not necessarily winning it, but in the hunt. There have been several teams, including LSU that have won the SEC with two conference losses.
I agree, and I think that's what we have gotten. Not counting bowl games, LSU, at best, should average nine to ten wins a season, win the West division every three to four years, and an SEC championship every six to eight years. In six years with Miles, LSU has averaged 9.5 wins a year, won two West division titles, and one SEC championship. Statistically speaking, we shouldn't even be talking about BCS CG for another ten years or so.
That's my point. There are many LSU fans who would not have a problem if LSU did not appear in the BCS Championship Game for another Ten Years and have Coach Miles at the helm for the entire time. These folks may very well be in the majority. Can somebody convince me otherwise?
Depends if the majority of the people are rational or not. The rational ones understand what the numbers mean.
One championship in 10 years got Tommy Tuberville fired with a winning record. The SEC upper tier is expected to be competitive for the SECCG every year. This requires winning a division every 2 or 3 years and winning the SECCG every 4 or 5 years. In the SEC, the top-tier coaches are expected to win a crystal football at some point in his first 10 years.
