After a couple years of sticking by Benton while trying to get him qualified he repays LSU by taking the visit to Auburn after being a so called strong commitment. I would have cut him loose also. What a slap in the face to LSU and CLM to take that visit to Auburn. After struggling as much as he did to get qualified it is not a sure bet that he will be able to stay academically qualified once in college. The policy for many coaches is that if a committed recruit takes a visit to another school they will pull the scholly offer. As for as JJ is concerned, he won't the first LA product to spurn LSU for UT. I remember one highly sought after LB that signed with UT in 2000. That fall, after LSU upset the Vols in Death Valley in OT he was last seen flipping off the crowd. I do not harbor ill will toward the kid but I do believe he will regret this decision. Not a good example by his father either. How will he be able to trust Kiffin and Co. and vice versa is another story. Coaches like Kiffin and O will use these kids for their personal gain. They are not looking to better these kids at all. IMO. LSU has depth and from what I hear the 2010 class will be a better crop of in state talent so step away from the panic button. LSU will have another great class next year. Plus remain positive, a good time, fun lovin' fan base is always a plus with recruits.:geauxtige:tigerhead:lsup::crystal::crystal:
i like that he was enthusiastic and trying to get everyone else on board. maybe we just all bought into the hype that he could get everyone else to share that enthusiam. but i dont see it going away either, rather i see him transfering it to the playing field.:thumb: not to mention he's gonna have every other coach in the sec (three in particular) watching his every move just waiting to point out those troubles to the ncaa. and it couldnt happen to a more humble guy. i was thinking that earlier today. i hope a lot of coaches are thinking of instituting that policy. awwww...... btw, great seeing you again yesterday, sf. i can understand 18 year olds, as they still need to mature. its some of the parents behavior that i find appalling as they should know better.
I'm too tired to read the 2nd and 3rd pages of the thread. That uF won :crystal: this year leaves me with little concern there. We have the #2 class even with the Benton/Jackson things, I'm tickled we have such a nice class given the malveto debacle. Recruiting will right itself after we skull drag bama this fall and uT struggles to break .500
For LSU, it was a no win situation if they kept the scholly for Benton with the real risk of losing both Benton after one year(him going pro) and losing Randle on this round. It's almost like an impossible situation to try to keep both on the same team. With Benton being = Randle talent wise (and some may argue Benton is even better) Les had to make a very tough decision, and I feel he made the right call, in the overall scheme of things for LSU. LSU otherwise will be overloaded with talent WR's this year, which can be a deterrent for any potential recruit. I am sure the recruits are aware of Dixon transferring out this year....I do not like the way Randle' s father handled the recruiting. He put LSU in a bad situation. Now the added pressure is on Randle. How can he be that great if he has zero character and integrity? I don't care for such recruits, IMHO. In a way good thing he shows it now. Exactly. Time to look forward and focus on developing the talent we have. The defense coaching staff looks very promising, and I am looking forward to see how the loaded defense will look this coming season. His father is a great disappointment; being a coach and seemingly lying about the son's commitment till the very last moment.....very much reminded me of Saban about his announcements regarding Miami, then Bama. The JJ recruitment smells dirty, and doesn't reflect well on Kiffen and Coach O. I suspect Miles will get his payback the next time the two teams meet! You're damn right! Any team needs a spark plug to fire things up, and I think he can be one of the future team leaders. Going back to JJ's dad as a coach, not sure how much respect you can get out of the kids you coach when you say things that you don't mean... I don't think Miles is like that at all, and that's why I like and respect him:miles: (despite his apparent goofiness...) Miles may have lost this round to Kiffen/O in regards to JJ's recruiting; but people like Kiffen/O will get their dues on the long run. Geaux Miles, stay on course!
Look at it from the other side, had we got D.B. instead of RR we would be complaining about how Saban took our top recruit in the state and how he's going to take the state in terms of recruiting in years to come, i mean how can you not be happy with this class, we had the #1 recruiting class, Rivlas actually gave Alabama points to make them one, Yes we lost JJ but oh well if he's going to do something like that, then i wouldnt want him on the team anyway remeber we still have Patrick Peterson who is WAY more of a stud than he will ever be, so i ask all LSU fans to calm down a little and although we had a few players stolen from us, we stole a few from other schools and still have the talent to be National Champs
On TexasTigers original posts title – I may understand recruiting less than I understand women (but my wife will probably disagree with that assessment). :insane:
