Things I have learned this recruiting season

1. Russell Shepard although a great kid is just that a kid. We all kind of bought into him running around during all star games saying "These guys are all LSU" not one of them except for Loston was accurate.

2. What happened to our South Florida/Florida connection. Is this the first year we havent pulled a big time recruit out of Florida ?

3. LSU got 6 of the top 10 players in Louisiana. Great in some respects, but not great when LSU target three of the remaining top 10 and had two committed jump ship at the last minute and one never offered until the last minute - Not really good

4. All the "insider" information on message boards are all crap. Nothing personal but the "I know someone everyone relax he is solid" almost every bit of it was a guess.

5. This Benton Randle thing still seems a bit fishy to me

6. I am not going to lament the kids we lost and celebrate the ones who chose to be LSU Tigers. Class kids and great talents should be fun to watch them grow.

7. This is a great class more so after an 8-5 season of misery. But there are some red flags for me long term.

The fact Bama and Tennessee were able to Raid Louisiana in some aspects,

The fact the pipeline to Florida was nil this year which has been huge for us in the past is a concern

We had several defections at the last minute and none coming the other way

And lastly with the pass happy Arkansas Razorbacks and other SEC teams I had hoped we got a few lock down corners as our Pass defense was shredded last year. Now you could argue scheme but I would add skill to that as well.


From top to bottom this class is stacked. But I hope some of the concerns above are only an abberation and not a sign of possible things to come.

I know it sounds like I am complaining about a top 5 class I am not because if you look at the positives there are many.
1. We got the #1 player in Texas AND Louisiana
2. Got some players from non bordering states.
3. Class is loaded with Speed from Top to Bottom
4. Got some solid playmakers on both sides of the ball
5. Several will contibute as freshman.

I don't feel like Louisiana got raided. We lost Janzen Jackson. That's a big loss -- true. But it was to TN and not to Bama.

TN did far better in Louisiana compared to Bama. Alabama got left overs.. TN got a stud.

 

That is why I just canceled my Rivals/Scout subscriptions. Its not worth the money lol. All it does is add more stress to you because completely unexpected things happen in the recruiting arena.

I'm still recovering over the JJ situation. I don't know what to say, I've about lost all respect to LG, a man I always respected. I even vouched for this man. What they did was downright dirty and their is some serious shady stuff going on in that area. Kiffin borderline broke NCAA rules on ESPN yesterday alone.

 

It may sound like that but it's not. This is an excellent class to be sure, but it did not fulfill all our needs, as claimed by Miles. The coaches are going to have to make due with 1 rb, 1 wr, and no cb in this class. And those two guys are one injury away from being zero impact. It is why you recruit more than one kid at the position.

We can't get them all, and overall I have been impressed with Miles ability to pull in the studs this year. However, it did not finish strong, and we did miss. I thought Debose and Campbell were our big losses, but it turns out Benton, Kelly, Bell, Jackson, Pratt will all be added to that group.

Hopefully some of it was a result of the coaching transition and can be avoided next year. In the end I believe we will be ok, but this did not finish well.

 

I think Kiffin's going to have major violations brought down on him in a couple of years. If he hasn't done anything illegal yet, I think he's proven he's not smart enough to keep himself out of trouble for long with how strict the NCAA is.

 

He didn't break the rules on ESPN yesterday but damn near came to it.

 

Add in Oregeron and there is a recipe for something....

 

Right. Just commenting that his ego's going to get the better of him one time, and he will slip up somewhere.
