That's the point; none of them are. Not really their fault though. I'm sure they are doing the best they can. The fault lies with the league for making us deal with this crap.
This is my point. The refs (real ones) are in a union, they aren't getting punished. The players and the fans are. The two groups of people you MUST have to have the NFL. I hate to harp on the same thing over again but it is simular to the Saints ordeal. I believe we should have been punished but the extent is unreal, in the end the punishment is punishing the Saints fans...and we sure as hell didn't do anything nor could we have stopped it if we had known. Goodell's constant stance that he is the "god" of the NFL is going to bite him in the ass, maybe not this year but soon and when it does, the party is at my house...because I will celebrate that day almost as much as I celebrated the Saints super bowl win.
In the end you have to look at it for what it is, a labor dispute. From what I understand the ref's want a pension for working a part time job. Bullshit if you ask me. I'm pretty sure they are paid well for what they do and they get paid to have the best seat in the damn house to watch NFL games. Yeah I know they don't get to really "watch" but geez, they are on the damn field. Either way, it is like I said, typical union muscle flexing. The trouble is it will lead to some other entity next year saying "Hey, we want more money and a pension too" "why not, the refs got what they wanted". It just never ends. Shut up and do your damn job and quit with all the bitching. Yeah the replacements suck and eventually the owners will cave and give in and then it will be a bloodletting from here on out. Free Agency, Salary Caps, and Referees will be the death of the greatest sport on the planet. Well almost.
I saw that too but even if a deal is reached today doesn't that beg the question: will they be ready? It's my understanding that they haven't worked since the Super Bowl (and that was only one crew) and we're in the 4th week. Sort of like a player who holds out and misses all of training camp. If they are back this weekend, they will undoubtably have more control and undoubtably get more calls right, but they won't be anywhere near quarter season form.
Sure they will. You don't think they haven't been watching every game, staying sharp, keeping track of everytime a replacement screwed the pooch. Makes for great bartering material. I bet they don't miss a lick.
From the Seattle/Greenbay thread, and I quote "And this will be the play that ends the replacement ref era. NFL will end the Ref strike this week, they have to after that debacle. I’d be every cent I have that the real refs are back for next week. Betting the Packers -3.5 and losing on a Hail Mary in the end zone where there was clearly offensive pass interference and your guy intercepted the pass has to be the worst beat of all time, besides being 0-3 in two fantasy football leagues. Love how one ref signals TD other rules interception. To quote John Gruden. “Horrific”...." In case you are wondering the answer is No it doesn't get old being right
I just bet you are kicking yourself not taking the bet that the refs would be back, could have gotten you even and maybe on the + side! Sure you could have found that bet somewhere!
I'm sure I could have, the second I would have taken it the owners would have locked them out till next week.....that's the way the ball has been bouncing for me lately.
