The Wild Tiger: Does it exist?

Well, does it? MANY teams use as an integral part of their offense. We had been led to believe by the coaching staff that the same would be true for LSU. Are we saving it for the BIG game? Apparently many forum regulars here have some inside scoop about LSU football. Care to share?

I think you might see a "wild tiger" style play here and there with RS against a few of our bigger opponents but I wouldn't hold your breath waiting to see it.

Replaced by the option to the short side.

We haven't needed it to beat the teams we've played. Why show what you can do to the rivals? We'll see it when we really need it.

What scenario do you envision where we would "really need it"? If we are behind by 2 touchdowns to Alabama, we will be throwing the ball ( a scary thought). Using the Wild formation is strategically a proactive action, not a reactive one.

We'll use when we've always used it . . . inside the red zone in big games. There are a lot of things you can do out of the Wildcat and we'd like the Bama and Florida DC's to be ignorant of our tendencies when they see it.

You don't waste your best suprises on the weakest opponents.

We don't run the "wildcat" like you would see the Dolphins, Ole Miss, or Auburn . On the rare occasion we do, it's your basic zone-read or a direct snap to Shepard. Last year we put Scott in motion. :dis: It could be dangerous, but like BRETT said, I wouldn't hold my breath.

    Excellent point.

Wondering what else we're holding back. That said, I am curious how these types of plays are executed if they've only been run in practice and not in real game conditions.. Excuse my ignorance; I never played football...

I have faith that we'll never see it. Crowton (or whomever runs the offense) is clearly dead-set on running the most counter-intuitive offense possible.

My biggest concern is when are we going to just be content to call this formation what it is: the wildcat? Why do we (generally at the persuasion of the commentators) feel like we have to make it the wild"insert team mascot here"? Where does it end? The wildlonghorn? The wildmidshipmen? The wildcrimsontide? It particularly irks me with a team like ours, whose mascot actually is some sort of wild cat.
