he doesn't seem to be as good a blocker as the other tight ends... while that doesn't seem to be important in the nfl any more for a tight end, it just happens to be his weakest attribute (not that it's terrible) I'm not at practice, so I can't tell you if he's actually a great blocker, it just seems like when we're running the ball out of a power formation, he's on the sidelines....
the original post I quoted said that had dickson been in the game on that play, we'd have won the game
Dickson appears to have soft hands. That's an excellent quality in a tight end, who is often asked to catch balls in traffic. I don't know what his foot speed is like, but his hands and body type remind me of Jason Witten of the Cowboys. A TE can make a nice living in the NFL these days, even without being a great blocker.
He is a great asset that I think needs to utilized more. I think he should get 5-6 passes a game. Tight ends get under utilized many times. A TE pass can be setup easily and usually successful. So much focus of the LB's are on the RB's, QB, and Slot WR's and the TE's many times get forgotten about because they start of blocking then peel off across the middle. With the offense that Crowton runs I think the TE pass gets set up well.
He was in the game on that play. He was the receiver that was closer to Flynn that he did not throw it to because he was more covered. He was the near side TE (left) and Zinger was the far side TE (right). Flynn threw it to the one that was more open. And it WAS a difficult catch to make at the very top of his reach. Not easy for a TE (remember his pads are built differently and it is tougher for a TE to reach above his head to catch the ball than a WR). Plus, Zinger is an inch taller than Dickson, so Dickson might not have been able to reach it. Water under the bridge. They are both good and a great asset to the team.
I don't know if we run this, but I have always thought in the redzone, running a two TE set with Dickson and Zinger was a good idea, especially with in a play action situation, because you can send Dickson out on a little out route and leave Zinger at home to block. Do we run this sort of play? I think we do.
I just want someone to get to that idiot Gary Danielson on CBS and tell him that his name is NOT DIRKSON!!!! Ol Verne tried a few times in the last two games that CBS broadcasted to correct him with no success at all. What a tool shed this guy is. Does anyone know if he just has some private ax to grind with our TE? What gives?
