Now Dandy Don is saying this:

Ga Tech has opened as a two-point favorite to win, and that is largely due to the respect the odd-makers have for the talent on this LSU team. I was expecting the Yellow Jackets to open as a 10- to 12-point favorite.

I've been trying to watch linebacker play since the Fla. game which is difficult on TV but it seems we have been most effective when Cutrera and Beckwith are at LB and Chad Jones is at NB in the 4-2-5 and then moves up to outside LB as the situation warrants. It's usually Beckwith in the middle and Riley and Sheppard on the ouside and then Jones running in (USUALLY AT THE LAST MINUTE) and replacing Sheppard for a 4-2-5 setup. The 4-3 lineup of Beckwith, Riley and Sheppard has not worked.
Throw in poor safety play and inexperience at the CB and there you have it.

Cutrera has not been the problem this year.

Just four business days after Yellow Jackets fans received news that Georgia Tech (9-3) accepted a bid to play in the bowl, they snatched up all of the 17,500 tickets the school was allotted for the game. Through Wednesday, however — three business days after the Tigers accepted their bid as the game’s SEC representative — only 11,000 of LSU’s (7-5) allotted 15,000 tickets had been sold, according to The (New Orleans) Times-Picayune.

Gee - wonder why the folks who can take public transportation to the game are buying them faster than the coonasses?

There'll be plenty of purple to go with the "gold".

I'll be there....NYE in ATL at the Dome with the LSU faithful will be alot of fun. I am however disheartened with the ticket sales. LSU usually travels very well to ATL. I guess many fans are just frustrated at the "dissappointing" season. If you can make it to game, make sure to wear your Purple to offset the Home team's Gold.

    Especially with Jefferson now starting.

The triple option can be defended, especially if there is no real passing game to mix in. But it takes discipline . . . not a hallmark of this year's defense.

For the triple option to be successful it takes a speedy quarterback and running back, but most of all it takes an exceptional fullback. If the dive isn't a threat on every single down . . . the triple option can be stopped.

Miles should call up Nicholls and see if their team is available for a "scrimmage." I'm sure that can't be against any rules, right?

I'm not worried about LSU scoring points. JJ showed a LOT of promise against Arky. Defense, defense, defense... however. A plus is that LSU is better against the run than they are against the pass. But, I can see LSU getting burned a few times through the air, and that could make a HUGE difference! If we can keep GT sorta one dimensional (for a triple op team,) I'd feel a little better. I think that our conditioning is a little better than theirs. I've watched a TON of triple option games at Nicholls and those guys will stay competitive usually until late in the game when they just fall apart from exhaustion. If we're not down too bad at half, I think we could outscore them. Especially with JJ having a few weeks to have a game plan tailored for him. I won't go so far as to say we'll get hammered, but I honestly think it'll be a toss up. Probably a good game. I wouldn't be surprised if it's a really good game.

Tech fan here. I'm really looking forward to this! Should be the best test for our new O to date.

One thing to keep in mind is that while LSU gets a month to prepare for the option, GT gets a month to add plays and wrinkles not yet on tape. The offense is still not yet fully installed.

It's also not quite comparing apples to apples when you look at your ranking in run defense vs. rushing stats of the option. Typically, run defense depends on the strength of your front 7, but an option QB makes reads to try to remove these guys from being able to make the play. If he's successful, it's your secondary that often has to shed blocks and make the tackles. I believe a better predictor is to compare your total defense to Tech's rushing offense. PJ will pass if everything else is covered. Georgia, FSU and Miami never forced GT to do that. They committed to stopping the dive, so the outside reads shredded them.

What worries me is Tech's back 7 on D. I don't know if we've had all 4 secondary starters in without injury at the same time in a long time. If they're healthy I feel a little better, but the month off gives the Tigers time to settle in a starting QB. We already know we're down 2 linebackers for the game as well. The jury is still out on our new DC.

Anyway, here's to a fun, clean matchup. Go Jackets!

Why can't all rival posters be this candid and honest?
