What were they wrong about? We have one of the most physically gifted QBs in the nation? We have physically gifted, big and fast receivers? I think they were right about both. We have a solid offensive line, as predicted. Our running game was hurt by losing Broussard, which was predicted. All preseason expectations were based on the idea that our raw talent would improve in ability to execute from last season. That one point is where the prognosticators were wrong. If we've improved, the improvement has been on a small scale. Why is our offense still sub-par? It is a valid question.
I went to Class with Mike C. in junior high and highschool. He WAS a Quarterback and Defensive back. I think Saban developed him just fine... :thumb:
LSU made it to #3 after the Ole Miss game in 2003. Before that, Patsy Cline's "Crazy" was the #1 song the last time LSU was ranked in the top 3. They've back at #3 at the END of a season just two years later. Enjoy the success. Then again, that's expecting a lot from a fan base who couldn't enjoy the first national championship in 45 years because some people thought USC was #1. Let's wait and see how Miles does in Atlanta and on road trips to Gainesville, Auburn and Knoxville next year.
Crazy... written by non-other than, believe it or not, when he was but a lad, drumroll please............ WILLIE NELSON!! the stuff on file in this mind is ...... amazin'!!
Ha. Something tells me it wasn't Saban's fault when Amp Hill got hurt. What about Ben Wilkerson? **** happens. It's a physical sport. Don't blame that on Miles.
The same thing we were wrong about last season when people ranked us top 5 & said we had so much pure talent. Pure talent doesn't win games. In fact, talent doesn't mean anything without coaching & development. I too am dissapointed with the development of some aspects of our team. That is the coaching staff's fault. But it's the last coaching staff's (Saban's) fault too, for leaving a team full of starters that weren't developed. Miles & staff have continued to develop them, just not up to our expectations. The improvement isn't on a small scale. Without mental errors that I've continued to point out & do not blame on the coaching staff explicitly (coaching transition & hurricane might play a role) - this offense is 5 times better than last years. EVEN WITH THEM, this offense is still better than last years.
Well then surely you blame Saban for never using him. I mean, it was only once Miles got here that even caught a pass, much less scored a few touchdowns. The guy is fast and a deep threat for us. But we can't get him open every play. We try to throw it to him rather often. I'm not sure what you expect. Bombs every other series? That's not SEC football & any team that plays it here will pay for it. Check the stats again. Skyler is our 3rd most productive receivers & has the second most receptions (or so someone posted not long ago). He hasn't been a non factor, just not as heavily needed as he was last year. Let's not exaggerate about this. He has dropped a few passes, but been a good receiver other wise. I suppose we should just bench our most productive receiver. I agree that Doucet isn't being used enough. But he is basically a combination of Buster & Bowe, and with them being our 2 most productive receivers it doesn't give him much room to be a playmaker. Also, he gets on in a lot of plays and JaMarcus just doesn't look his way as much. I don't know to what extent that's playcalling or JaMarcus's decisions. He runs very precise routes & is our best receivers for quick outs & short passes. Bowe is better for the mid range passes. They mix it up occassionally. I don't see the problem. Play to your strengths... It's my impression that he got in the doghouse earlier in the year. He hasn't shown he is a good receiver yet. Hopefully he will develop into one, but until then I don't blame the coaching staff for not throwing to him too much. He also is in on some plays & just doesn't get looked at much.
I just want to point this out oneee more time. Miles did not inherit a great offense as many here imagine. He inherited a talented, yet unproven & inconsistent, offense. All the talk fans say how some other team is "hyped up by the media" and "what have their players done?". Well that's what we were this preseason guys. We were a team that the media was hyping based on potential & not proven results by our players.
