Like I said, priorities . . . When your boat has peeling paint and is sinking, you can't waste too much energy addressing the paint and fail to plug the leaks.
They must continue within reason. We are already so far ahead in some areas that piling it on is wasteful. Actually they are paid very well today. Master Sergeants make $87,000. Colonels make $ 120,000. This is serious. The ocean has gotten no smaller and we can;t be a bluewater navy with the ships. Indeed, but this is an area where we waste a lot of money with gold-plating. Planes are becoming so expensive that losing one is a financial disaster. We no longer anticipate having to fight a traditional tank war in Europe. We must pull our forces out of EUrope. The Euros collectively have enough money and forces to protect themselves. If this changes we can come back. We must stay in Korea for a while to protect Japan. We must also close a great many unneeded bases in the USA, leftover from WWII and the cold war. And we must spend lot less on the National Guard. There is a ton of waste there paying high wages to unready, poorly trained and undeployable troops while maintaining thousands of local armories.
