Not the poorest. You describe the lower middle class.

    So was Rome.

Indeed. But they are pulling away from the bulk of the middle class and the billionaires are pulling away from the millionaires even faster. The top 400 taxpayers earn an average of 87 million a year. They simply don't need tax breaks. They are doing fine. They can't even spend all the money that they make. Listen to Buffet.

I'm sure many (liberals, conservatives, moderates) would agree BUT even a larger percentage would agree politicians don't need more revenue to waste.

Our current revenue would be sufficient to cover our expenses if we didn't have pet projects, payoffs, riders, and if we limited government assistance to sustenance only...not to spread the wealth or make people comfortable.

If EVERYONE paid taxes we would be just fine.

Once again...and this is what liberals don't want to admit...overspending is the problem NOT a lack of revenue.

I do work for the benefits you know and it’s not like military personnel don’t pay taxes either.

    Lavish Life Time Health Benefits?

You know they take my health care out of my check right?

You know I had to pay into my GI Bill correct?

Don’t get me wrong, the benefits in the military are nice, but it is b/c of the huge tradeoff that we make.

I don’t get over time, I don’t decide what I get to do at work and I don’t get to see my family whenever I want. I also sit in a waiting room when I am pissing out my azz for about 5 hours before I get any care. My wife gets treated like cattle when she goes into labor. The health care on base is far from lavish.

Anyway, I have to serve 20 years before I get any life time health care and it doesn’t even compare to the millions of people that DON’T WORK that get just as good health care as me. Private hospitals are 10X’s better….

Not to mention the HUGE FACT that I do in fact WORK for everything I get.

I was talking about poor people who do NOTHING to better themselves and EXPECT a pay check…

While I am not in a career field that gets shot at, I still believe in my heart those guys deserve the world for what they do.. They are true heroes and deserve the very best services…. They have truly earned it….:usaflagwa:usaflagwa

Obviously cuts to the military need to be made and we can start by ending these wars…

Some of you are just warped in the head.

No one here wants to kill old people, throw poor babies off a cliff and burn homeless folks.

Let’s act like adults and address the real issue………..

OK, we are talking about supporting people who have zero intention of supporting themselves. There is a huge difference in this. If you can’t see through this and want to paint us as some type of evil maniacs, then go for it. The only thing at work here is your conscious and how you feel about yourself at the end of the day.

No one is stopping any of you from opening up your homes to bums on the street.

    Go for it!

This idea of ridding the world of poor and hunger is beyond stupid. Life isn’t glamorous at all. Our job on this planet is to first help ourselves, if you can’t help yourself, how in the fudge can you help your family, friends and neighbors?

With all of that said, I AM FOR HELPING HE NEEDY, POOR and whatever else is out there, when we can afford it. Private industry can help too….

When you have an extra dollar or 2 in your pocket you give it to someone in need. When you DON'T HAVE an extra dollar you say God Bless You and move the F on.

These are separate issues. Tax fairness is not affected by how well or poorly the politicians do their jobs.

It's been proven they will spend it if they can get their hands on it. We need a balanced budget act.

CHill, I begrudge you nothing. The point I was making is that it is not only people unwilling to work that get governement benfits.

Then get your priorities straight. There just aren't that many people refusing to work and getting benefits. It's a drop in the bucket. The intentionally jobless cannot get social security benefits, they can't get disability, they can't get welfare payments, they can't get public housing unless they have the income to pay something. They can't even get food stamps for more than 3 months if they don't work or participate in an employment and training program. Most of the street bums you vilify are homeless, jobless, careless, and outside the system. They have given up and receive no benefits.

The vast bulk of people getting benefits are the indigent, that you agree must be cared for, and working people like you. People that have worked and paid taxes and find themselves eligible for benefits. Some of these people work very hard for a very small amount of money. When you talk about entitlement reform, you cannot just cut a few freeloaders on the system and make any headway at all. You are going to be talking about cutting some of your own benefits.
