Great article, I don't know if anyone has posted it yet but it is a great read. And before you call me a hater, or say that i'm not a real LSU fan, save it. I've heard it all before. Sorry but I was right about Les, good guy, bad coach.:geauxtige http://msn.foxsports.com/cfb/story/7482072
So, the only good coach in all of America is....June Jones? Oh, wait, he's not in a position to win a championship. Stoops lost to 2 un-ranked teams Carroll lost to Srtanford Weis Lost to everybody Meyer lost to the guy everyone says is a bad coach Saban lost to ULM R. Rodriguez lost to S. Florida Spurrier lost quite a few games Butch Davis lost a few Phat Phil Tubby Rich Brooks Mangino Forget the name of Oregon's coach Kirk Ferentz Jeff Tedford Dennis Erickson Mark Richt Mack Brown Jim Tressel Boston College's coach Schiano Leavitt Carr All of these guys lost at least 1 game they had no business losing. Did I leave anyone off? Every freaking one of them. So, all of these guys suck. There are no good coaches in Div. 1 football anymore.:insane:
Wow, that's a brutal article. But it's hard to argue with the writer's points of argument. He gives Miles credit where it IS due, but takes him to task for the decisions made during games. Wonder if he's right? That Michigan may rethink their position. Of course, we don't know that Miles would have been their first choice, but one wonders how much the loss to Arkansas will damage his stock.ldskule:
However, when championships are there to be won and statements are to be made, Arkansas ambush made one thing perfectly and overwhelmingly clear: Les Miles can't strategize his way out of a paper bag. He's a fine human being, which should count for more in the long run than one's performance when wearing a headset on the sideline. But for the record, this loss to Houston Nutt's Hogs proved, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that Les Miles is certifiably loony as a play caller, clock manager and timeout juggler. In those three aspects of coaching (not the job description as a whole), Miles is a flunkie. Period. Can't argue with the facts.
He lost in triple overtime to a pretty good team with two GREAT running backs. IMO, we lost the game in the first quarter when we didn't take full advantage of the 2 turnovers. But to say the guy's stock has gone down in Michigan's eyes because of this lost is crazy. Remember UM lost to Appy State this year. But hey if he goes he goes, and if they offer he will. Taken from Travis Daniels but change to fit my situation. "I cheer for the name on my hat not the name on the coach's office door!!!" GEAUX TIGERS!!! BEAT THE VOLS!!!! :geaux: :geaux: :geaux: :geaux:
Interesting the Miles' bashers have not responded to Nutriaitch's post. Certainly don't want the facts to get in the way of a well established opinion
JMO, but if Miles is guilty of anything, IMO it's that he allowed Crowton too much leeway in establishing offensive gameplans against conference opponents. Quite frankly, I was shocked to repeatedly see LSU seemingly opt for the pass over the run. Given their stable of running backs and the fact that LSU's receivers block better than any corps in the conference, I'm blown away that LSU didn't try to pound the ball as its method of choice. Just because you have a good passing game doesn't mean it's wise to rely on it. LSU would've beaten Auburn by 14-17 points if it had committed to the run. LSU would've beaten Arky handily if it had committed to establishing the run. And most of all, LSU's failure to dominate via the run is what allowed Kentucky to gain some Bluegrass karma and upset the Tigers. Les is a good coach ..... and IMO it will be LSU's loss if Miles departs , regardless of reason.
But Weiss beat Stanford. Bellotti is the floats coach. Not sure if he lost one he shouldn't have. After playing Dixon hurt (and I mean potentially career ending hurt), he deserved any losses. What about the coaches who won those games they had no business winning? They making any short lists these days?
OK, I'll respond. I do think Miles is a fine coach and an even better person. I don't think there's a better coach out there for LSU. But Miles is not perfect, and neither are we. However, since he is in a very visible position, his on the job decision making is also much more visible. I don't agree with all of his decisions, but HE'S THE ONE who gets paid to make the calls. I'm glad every choice and decision I make at work isn't examined as closely as his...then again, I don't make quite as much as Les does. All coaches and all people have off days and make bad decisions from time to time. Overall I'd have to say that Les makes mostly good decisions, but it is hard to argue with the fact that some of the stuff that he's done seems a bit off the wall. Doesn't mean we aren't glad to have him here - I am. I just wonder sometimes, "What the heck was he thinking?". I've wondered the same about my wife, but I still love her and we've managed to stick for 25+ years. Healthy criticism is what makes people get better. No, you don't throw away a guy with a record like Coach Miles has at LSU. But his success makes us wonder even more about his occasional failures.ldskule:
