Dirts being slung in every direction.. the motivation is a moot point IMO. It's the BCSNCG -- if us FANS can get up for it.. how much easier should it be for the players? The team that executes will win. Barring freak accidents and terrible calls. If we play the full 60 minutes I don't believe any team can hang with us. If we don't.. well we'll probably be in for more heart attacks.
Here's the first couple minutes of the 12-minute video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qtfbpylk0eo Seemed pretty tame to me, but I'm sure they put the tamest stuff first, and saved the best for last (like James Carville's commentary ripping the Buckeyes a new one that OT Boone was talking about in that ESPN article). Coach Tressel first had the Buckeyes watch the video during a team meeting. Then he gave them each a copy and told them to watch it every day over their Christmas break. Some may have watched it again, some might have thrown it away. WR Brian Hartline said he only watched it a few times. According to that ESPN article, OT Alex Boone took the video home and let his grandmother watch it, and it made his grandmother start crying (Boone and fellow OT Kirk Barton were both singled out for poor play by postgame commentators discussing the OSU vs. Florida game).
This was sad: few, if any fans were there to greet the Buckeyes' charter flight when they returned home after the Florida loss. ... "You come back and you're hoping to see all these fans and nobody's there,'' Boone said. "Nobody wants to talk to you. Nobody wants to be your friend. A lot of people called me after the game and cursed me out.''
Should we be worried about JT's and Miles' only head to head, a 33-7 beatdown by the Buckeyes on the other osu, a team that was supposed to destroy us?
I heard that it was two assistant coaches who came up the idea and Tressl just gave his approval to do it. If there would be anything that should actually be stressed by the OSU coaching staff to motivate their players, it should be to overcome the 0-8 record against the SEC in bowl games and that they have the opportunity to change that. There are many psychologists who say that when you hear negative things about yourself or your group over and over, you tend to fulfill that thought pattern. It might actually be a very bad thing for the OSU players to hear the talking heads say they won't get it done over and over and over again.
I think OSU is setting themselves up to get emotionaly beatdown. They are going to be very motivated and wanting revenge for last years lost. I think that since they will be on such an emotional high that if LSU comes out and scores first, that might get to their heads. Just a thought, sometimes to much emotion is a bad thing, you don't do some of the fundemental things in a game and just start going after the ball, or lobbing the ball down field. :geauxtige :crystal: :tigereye: :milesmic: :LSU231:
I hear your analysis. However, the ONE thing about Tressel is he would NEVER let that sort of thing happen. He always errors on the side of caution when it comes to emotions and his ball club. Thats why I was so surprised by this DVD ploy, its sort of out of character.
Pulling out the self fulfilling prophecy on us huh? Well, we heard all those bad things all year, and look where we are now. One defensive stop away from a perfect season, and right back in the NC game. I'd say the OSU psyche is ok.
I'm kinda surprised OSU has taken it this for with the DVD. If they focus too much on last years game and no respect it could back fire on them. They need to not be thinking about last years game, they need to focus on LSU and this years game. If LSU can jump on OSU fast and hard I don't know that OSU can recover. They have this SEC monkey on their shoulder right now and many very good teams have failed to shake it. The Buffalo Bills never did. The Denver Broncos did. The Cleveland Browns have not but the old Cleveland Browns organization did through the Baltimore Ravens. It's just a head thing that OSU has to over come. The game will be fun to watch and see how this story line plays out for the media. We all know how they can be.
