I'm sure this fits in to some other thread and will probably get moved and thats fine, but.. I heard on the radio today that the "sweater vest" sent all his players to their rooms with a 10 min DVD of all the "pundants" saying tOSU didn't have a chance to win this game. Look guys I'm as big a Tiger fan as anyone out there but crap like this really worries me. If for some reason our boys get it in their heads that all they have to do is throw their helmets on the field and get a win it's going to be a long night. If it were next year, or last year or any other year I'd be a little less concerned. However, with what happened to the luckeyes last year they are going to come with everything they have. This will not be a walk in the park and I just hope the head has them ready to play.
A couple of things. First, he sent these home with the team before christmas, with the order to watch it every day. Secondly, as much as it means to me, as a buckeye fan, and as much as it pisses me off, and would be enough motivation for me to want to beat Mark May's you know what on sight, it means nothing if they don't execute. they can't let this be the only thing that they are focusing on, or we will see a repeat of last year. It's as much about execution as motivation, and though I think it will inspire them (The buckeye inside of me screams that it has to), but they still have to play accordingly. I think they will, and this will equalize many things on the field on monday, but I'd be more worried about tressel deciding that he needs to be as aggressive as miles in order to pull out a W. IMO, as good a coach as tress is, he was introduced last year to what it means to be an aggressive coach, and this is the development reflected most in him passing out this DVD. I would be more worried, were I an LSU fan, about what that means from a coaching standpoint, than what it means to the players.
Both teams have motivation all through the BCS games with the media and the teams proclaiming themselves the most worthy to be in the big game. ESPN had a love fest with USC and UGA the past two days, and had OU won, I'm sure it would have been more of the same.
Apparently you didn't know that I'm 12 feet tall, and 550 llbs. I would swallow him whole:hihi: . Seriously, I'm small and way quicker than him, didn't you ever watch him play?
http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/columns/story?columnist=wojciechowski_gene&id=3180074&sportCat=ncf Link to Espn story. I think it is kind of childish. You need a DVD of other peoples opinions about your team to get you motivated to win a game. Like Dorsey said last night on ESPN, "I don't buy it". They know they are a great team. Somehow they are #1 in the polls, have the #1 defense in the nation, going to their second straight NCG but are somehow the underdog. Where as LSU is the first 2 loss team to make it to the NCG, have had their defense do a 180 through the season and will be playing with an injured QB. This is another ploy by the media to stir the pot. :geauxtige :crystal: :tigereye: :milesmic: :LSU231:
Does any one think, that this sounds like a team (tOSU) that is wound up too tight? Last year, they were too relaxed, now they are all business. I know some people are concerned about our preparations, but I think it shows confidence. We seem to be on an even keel. What will carry the team is the determination and will that carried them all season. :geauxtige
Well I think Dorsey and some OSU players said it best. Do you really need a DVD to play any harder ? If you do thats pretty sad. Yesterday an Strahan said the same thing about Ronde Barber saying something about the Giants. He said "What do you think his comments are going to make us play harder ?, do you think because someone said something we are all of a sudden now going to say. OK now we are going to try to win the game.. of course not" So videos, Mike May etc, dont make anyone play harder. The ONLY time that comes into play is AFTER the game when they can say "See everyone said we couldnt do it" But no video or comments by an LSU player or OSU is going to make one or the other play any harder or want to win any more than they already do" Buckeye78 is correct, it all comes down to execution. I dont think its childish, didnt Saban show Seabiscuit before the OU game. Can you imagine a bunch of huge football players watching Seabiscuit ? That is silly in my opinion.
I doubt any player on either team just took up the game of football in the last year or so. These guys have been preparing for games since jr. high or earlier. They are the ones who were good in hs and have continued to improve since then. Now they are on the two teams deemed to be the best in college football today according to the BCS selection committee. What other motivation do you need than playing for the National Championship? If you can't be ready for this, then why have you gone through all you went through over the years? Now is the time to put it all on the line and forget about posing for pictures/revenge/personal honors.:geauxtige
actually we're a DAMN GOOD wound up team! and, splitting hairs, it was a DVD not a CD. In all seriousness, I think it was a good move by tress. Hes typically very reserved and all about business, but it was nice to see that the team is just as affected by the trash talk about us (and its out there) as me, the fan.
