What we need is a blanket law to protect children. Every state is different in reporting as well as punishment for the guilty. What we need is a universal law that REQUIRES a report to be made by a DA and prosecution to proceed with the most harshes of punishment. If you witness or come to know about child abuse it needs to be taken right to the Prosecutors and the punishment should be life in prison or DEATH. If many saw what really happens to the guilty you would be horrified. The punishment is no where near what it should be. Money seems to make it all go away, meanwhile the victim spends the rest of his/her life in therapy. The laws definitely need to be changed and the doctor, minister, attorney, etc. privilege needs to be removed...it needs to be reported and your job or your money should not shield you.
Actually, no they get out that is why they have to register as a sex offender. They should never get out of prison. EVER!
Child molesters should not be put in a place in prison that protects them from other inmates. General population
I agree. I also don't think there should be a statue of limitation where you can't prosecute these evil people. Some don't tell till they are adults, many years later, and the law can't help them anymore.
molestation is fairly common, more then people realize. It's never gonna stop until we educate kids on certain topics at an early age. From personal experience I can say that if I had just one conversation, I may of found the courage to tell an adult. Beyond sex talks, we need to be more open with children and stop treating them like they're idiots. You can't stop the sickos but you can certainly do more to help these kids speak out before too much psychological damage is done. Either way it's just tragic and I'll never understand what can make someone do these things.
When my wife volunteered to be a chaperone for our son's school trip (when he was 3 or 4 yrs old), there was a mandatory video they had to watch. It included predators discussing how they slowly build trust with kids and their parents. One thing my wife took away from it was that never allow your kids to sleep over at a friend's house if you don't know their parents extremely well. I haven't kept up with the Syracuse thing yet but sounds as though it's not as clear cut as the Sandusky situation. Maybe the Syracuse coach isn't a "monster" and everyone should wait for the details to come out.
