Seems I've heard almost the exact same message from a guy named Bowden. Amazing, how some coaches seem to be caregivers to troubled kids a lot more than others (lol). Seriously, kids do stupid things and freaky things happen. Because of that, I agree with one point. I can be tough at times and each situation needs to be evaluated on it's own. But if you look the pattern over time Fulmer and Bowden have demonstrated tolerance for misbehavior and are willing to take more marginal kids. They tolerate misbehavior more so they get it more. All in the name of winning. If these coaches really had the best interests of the kids in mind, most of the kids would get kicked off the team, retain their scholarships and be given a chance to work it out while staying in school. A chance to work it out wihtout the pressure and spotlight of football It's a pattern I hope LSU doesn't follow. It just lowers the standards for the enitre school.
"So saving donuts makes me detestable? I bet you've never had a rasberry filled one? You'll never know what a donut can do for you. When I'm feeling sad and blue, I eat a donut. When I'm happy, I eat a donut. When nothing is going on, I eat a donut. At football practice, I eat a donut. When I shower, I eat a wet donut. First thing in the morning , I eat a donut. When we win a game, I eat a donut. When we lose a game, I eat a dozen donuts. When we lost the SEC Championship game to LSU in 2001 and 2007, you're darn right, I ate a donut. But when I feel like eating a donut, I eat a whole wheat bagle. Got to eat healthy. Know what I mean?"
I shudder to think that Tennessee could have easily picked up Bobby Petrino at the end of the 2007 season. Probably more of a good thing to have happened to the benefit of Florida, Alabama and Georgia.
Can you think of another example where a coach has responded by writing an editorial in response to an article like the one Adams penned?
I don't recall one. I'm sure he earned a lot of respect from his coaching counterparts though. It's probably a message many of them share.
