Don't mistake my trying to form an opinion on facts rather than what makes sense in my own mind to defending them. It is possible to have a little objectivity.

You make your case without any corroborating evidence to back up your theory. For your proof you use an opinion piece that states in the first paragraph "prior to Bomar-gate Oklahoma had kept its nose clean for almost 20 years" which sounds counter to your argument actually. All you have is just what makes sense to you and you feel that because there's no proof otherwise, it must be true.

It's the same thought process that had the world thinking that the earth was flat.

We're all aware of what OU has been busted for in the past many coaches ago. It's hardly proof that it happened in this case.

Exactly. The original comments are a simple minded assertion based on dislike for a program, and uses an article that would hardly be considered an authority on the situation. Just b/c you find something printed on the internet does not mean it is accurate or applicable and does not really serve as "proof".

I don't necessarily think it happened in this case although it certainly doesn't pass the sniff test. I just think Oklahoma is a dirty program and their history bears this out.

All reports tend to describe McFarland as a good kid with an overbearing mother. With their background it's probably a good thing for him but not necessarily a program.

From all accounts the kid really wanted LSU but obviously his mother's influence turned him to another direction. LSU is past the point to worry about losing a top ranked recruit here and there. I truly don't care.

BTW did I mention Oklahoma is a filthy program and Bob Stoops is a scumbag?

Your 18% number is B.S. Going by the roster posted on ESPN.com, A little over 30% of their players are from OK. A shade over 40% are from TX. LA is the next biggest state and several states contribute with a player here and there to round out their roster.

I threw together a couple excel charts to offer a more graphic explanation...

There's no argument that the mom was the mitigating factor. From everything we've read, it seems that she's been steering him to OU. I agree that something stinks, but I'm not jumping to the worst case scenario. It could be anything to promises of a new job, house, etc. to just digging the way that Jackie Shipp smells or flirts. She doesn't really come off as someone who makes decisions with rational thought, so nothing should come as a surprise.

The reports were that he had LSU in his top 3 at one point, but that was a while ago. For a good while now, the reports were that he dropped LSU and was only considering OU and Texas.

I honestly think what sealed the deal was how the OU President, Mr. Boren, had Jamarcus and his mom over for dinner at his mansion, and offered him that spot in the President's Leadership Class.

Mr. Boren isn't just the chancellor of the campus in Norman, he is president of the entire OU system, which includes the Norman campus, the Oklahoma City campus, the Tulsa campus, the med school, the law school, everything.

He is the equivalent to the LSU system president, John Lombardi.

It appears that, at the other schools, Jamarcus and his mom just had dinner at the head coach's house. That's small potatoes compared to having dinner at the mansion of the system President, and having the system President promise that he'll take good care of your kid, and will even put him in a special President's Leadership Class with all the other connected kids that they are making sure they take good care of.

But yes, being that the NYT article was written by a guy with a history of pro-Oklahoma bias, I wouldn't be surprised if he omitted to share any dirty recruiting stories he learned about OU.

My numbers are from the Oklahoma Sooner website which lists roughly 87 players with 72 being listed as out of state or 82%.

Stats and math are certainly not my strong suit so I wouldn't be surprised if they're wrong.
