The best secondary in the world will get gashed up if the QB has over 4 seconds to throw. CB is the 2nd hardest position to play on the football field. Corners are taught to stick their man, but even the best can't be trusted consistently for more than 3 seconds. You guys have to realize how important 3 seconds is in football. QB's are taught making reads based on 3 seconds of time. O-Linemen are taught technique based on 3-seconds of pass protection. D-linemen are taught they have 3-seconds to get to the QB, and even less time to pressure. So when the D-linemen give more than 3 seconds, it screws up even the best secondary. The secondary depends on the d-line to create pressure. It doesn't work the other way around. It never has and never will. The key ingredient of any successful secondary is pressure by whatever combination of the front 7 the called defense requires.

Now I'm not saying the secondary is great by any means. But LSU, aka D-Line U, may have been reading it's own press clippings to much and get over confident. They are a good unit, and the rest of the SEC knows it so they key it up a notch when playing LSU. But D-Line U should always outperform. What we're missing right now isn't talent. We're missing that motor guy...the guy who never stops, who eats up two blockers, but still gets pressure. Glenn Dorsey was a motor guy. Chad Lavalais was a motor guy. Ricky Jean was supposed to be that motor guy, but it isn't translating yet. He's going to be a good one, but I think the media got to their heads. If you notice, O-lines are manning up our D-linemen. They're not scheming to block one guy like Dorsey, and freeing up big Tyson for easy sacks/hurries.

I know our LBs aren't playing that great either. And it defense plays as a unit...but it starts up front. The game of football is won in the trenches. The team that controls the line of scrimmage wins. In our two losses, we got manhandled in the trenches. The secondary has made plenty of mistakes, but it's not all their fault they're getting torched.

I agree that the DL hasnt lived up to its billing or potential. Despite that its more the coverages and guys blowing them. Fact is LSU put decent pressure on Stafford, he showed why hes a stud QB. He made some great throws. The problem is the schemes too often have a S one on one with a WR. Our safeties arent good in coverage. Same for the LBs.

Yeah, you'll probably get red rep saying that you have "unrealistic expectations," you "suck as a fan" and that you are "bashing the team" like I those I have received.

I guess it comes with the territory when you don't see something exactly like some of the hardcore homers here do. We're all passionate and want to see our team win. Overall, I think we balance each other out - the bandwagoners with the sychophants, and the more hopeful fans with the more concerned fans.

what does this have to do with now? when you were still saying it his final year he was the best quarterback in the nation in college football.

i guess it validates your comments now hes on the great raiders organization?

really hes still making the same mistakes his first year to start in the nfl. thats golden.

im glad favre, romo and cutler have gotten over their turnover problems. you were right about them too i bet.

matter of fact, lets just bench every qb that is still making stupid mistakes after any given amount of time.

I cannot believe jarret lee is still making mistakes after his 3rd start. it really is unacceptable.

    1. nothing new there. LOl Ive been accused of worse.
    2. I earned the right to praise or bytch about the tigers by laying in a bunk as a kid listening to them on WWL in the early 70's when Bama was the team to beat in the SEC.
    3. I can remember driving around the back roads in North Texas to TRY to catch the tigers on the Shreveport station while working for an oil company on saturdays, I mean WAY back in the sticks. during the hallman years.

    4. I have some good friends here, been to some VERY nice tailgates with, salty his mom dad, brother, LSU grad, some others etc.....I catch up with them from time to time but there are also some yo yo's in the mix. I own a forum called Indy Racing scene and lets just say this place is in dire need of better moderation. Nuff said.

    5. Most of these people wouldnt say what they say to you face to face. In other words, they would have a hard time passin out red dots in person LOL

6 I could give a rat's about internet rep points, thank god i have bigger fish to fry than that. lol

take care and dont worry bout them rep points! Life is bigger than Rep points. hell the whole Indy LSU alumni chapter up here as far as I know has never posted here. gosh i wonder how they make it? ;)

You missed the point as usual. I said he REMINDs me of J marc I didnt say they had the SAME ability. K marc got us in a lot of trouble and he had enough arm to get us out of alot too.

J marc was NOT the best college QB inthe nation IMHO and he is not Farve, or will he ever be. He just has a strong arm.

You go ahead and ride that J marc ship i dont care. it's taking on water. Id rather spend my time elsewhere. Who knows he may prove me wrong, I hope so I have nothing personal against the man. I used to stand and cheer when he won the game at the end just like everyone else.

AND if you had read the post, you'd also see that I didnt blame Lee for his lack of experience. I said it was to be expected. I blamed the coaches for not coaching to his issues. Miles said he thought he got it fixed, I pointed out that he didnt fix it. He didnt lean more on the runing game and from what I saw, the pass calls werent that much different from previous. So maybe he worked on the boy's reads? technique? I dont know but he didnt fix it bottom line.

its a catch 22, if we have a great secondary the defense would make up for the inconsistant offense. if we had more stability on offense, We wouldnt need as much defense because their defense wouldnt be scoring.
the problems we are having is turnovers, mainly INT's, this is QB and coaching simply put.

the defensive issues we have are due to losses in the secondary due to graduation. Steltz and others were pretty good. The loss of Pelini could also be a factor.
WE have good talent now but like Lee they arent seasoned. Young
inexperienced players need lots of coaching. IMHO

Granted we might lose a few games, but I think we could look a weeee bit better in the games we lose than we have. Not bytching but we always want to seek to better our team. so you have to address the issues.

I'm sure Les will get it done, he has so far.

    have a great day tirk.
