So now there is a controversy? Way to gloss over the azz thumping I handed you. Read tigermark's post. It says it better than I ever could. The controversy in in the minds of fans who secretly say "I'm still not sold on Miles, but...".
I love Miles and think he's great. I am still allowed to question his decisions that I don't agree with. He's not god and he's not perfect.
Patting yourself on the back is a sure sign that you know you're wrong. Stop trying to stifle discussion that you are uncomfortable with. Just go and find a thread that is warm and fuzzy, grandpa.
There have also been numerous times this year alone where the pocket has collapsed and he's bent over in the fetal position waiting on the sack instead of using his footwork. That's the pressure I'm referring too. Not necessarily the enormity of any given situation, but more defensive pressure. He does not handle defensive pressure as well as JJ. Neither of them are great at it, but JJ at least offers some escapability. I don't know what playcalling had to do with either of those Bama picks. It looked like two horrible throws. A bad playcall is sending only one receiver out on a 20 yard deep route when you're pinned inside your own one yard line leaving nine guys to block six...and they don't do it. I don't think Bama was enough to "take" the job from JL per se, but it was enough that as a coach you've got to get your original starter some valuable work before Arky and (probably) Georgia, Ole Miss not withstanding. They will bring heat and both guys will have to be ready.
Some escapability with his feet, but he's not consistent. Jefferson tends to wait until a receiver is wide open and takes too many sacks waiting for it. Two sacks and a safety against WKU, lots of sacks last year. Lee knows when to get rid of the ball, at least. Lee's sacks come when his blitz protection fails, not from standing too long in a collapsing pocket. Jefferson is best running a ground game with designed QB running plays and some play-action passes. But Lee is still best at dropping back and hitting his receivers. Both need good protection from the line.
I see that it has developed on the boards, but I have seen no evidence of it from the team. They play well around both quarterbacks. If you haven't realized this by now you probably never will, but Les Miles does not give a damn about what is said by the media, by fans on message boards, or anyone else outside of his team. I find it much more likely that Jefferson's start had something to do with either the disciplinary issue with Lee, or Miles wanting to evaluate Jefferson. If Miles wanted Jefferson to be the starter all along, Jefferson would have been the starter all along. That simple.
No .. it's not that simple. Kinda hard to justify pulling a winning QB. CLM needed Lee to choke to achieve what he wanted. He got it. As I noted to RW ... this is not about Lee or JJ, or either one's abilities or performance. It's about CLM, and his inability to treat the two players fairly and equally. JJ stinks up the field, JJ starts the next game to work the kinks out ... Lee stinks up the field, JJ starts so CLM can evaluate him ... and most likely stick with him for the rest of the season. CLM has been building up to this all season, waiting for the opportunity. It's all captured in his response "the title starter, doesn't mean anything on this team". Yeah right, but you can bet it matters to the two guys in quesiton ... JJ has already said it matters to him. We'll see come Saturday which it is ... academic for Lee .. .or favoritism for JJ.
Who said that he did? I'm just saying that this OB change is making for legitimate and understandable fan discussion. Controversies are always from the fans, not the coaches.
First question I got from a woman I work with this morning was, "What is up with Jefferson playing so much?" I wanted to quote Izzy then caught myself.
I think that your "hate" for JJ is just too deep. You have said that many times both of these QB's are equal. If you dont see that JJ's skill set(mobility) is what gave LSU any chance to move the football against Bama, I just cant help you with that. Now, having said that, I look at JJ against WKU and say, meh, but I look at Lee against EVERY team we have faced and say meh. I dont see Lee better than JJ or giving us a better chance to win than JJ. Just as I dont see JJ better than Lee or giving us that much of a better chance to win. If I had to take the 2, Id give the edge to JJ because of his mobility. I think we stay with both Now LSU vs. Arky, UGA, and OKST - LSU is 10-0 using Defense, a power running game, and below average passing game, I dont see how any of those 3 are going to be able to do differently than WVU, Oregon, Bama, Florida, Auburn, or any other ranked team we beat, and beat us and our style of play. We do NOT live or die by the QB That is WHY we are 10-0 and #1
