It probably didn't take much. The guy has been in the senate for 30 years, he's 66 years old, and he has a 4-year-old daughter! It wouldn't take much of a health scare to make some time with family more important than one more term in Washington. Not to mention that his background in banking and finance will likely get him a part-time, high-paying consultant job in the banking industry. I bet he'd like to put a few serious shekels away for his young wife and daughter in his remaining years. Hell, I'm only 54 with a low-pressure job that I love, but after 30 years I'm about ready to do something else, too.
