The pledge is an affirmation that we hold to the goals, ideals and yes symbols of what this great country is. It is a call on each and every one of us to live up to those standards. We are reminded (or should be) when we recite it of where we came from and what the blood sweat and tears of our forefathers have wrought. It doesn't matter the language used what matters is what is in the heart of those who speak it. I was taught over 50 years ago that it should not be taken as a jingoistic affirmation of superiority but rather a pledge to uphold the spirit that brought us to this point. I still hold that belief and hope most do. I do and will continue to recite the pledge and sing the Star Spangled Banner PROUDLY!
