Don't know if anyone has mentioned it but how big was that ruffing the passer call on that 3rd down? Without that play this game may have never been this close as turnover on downs there could have gone a long way into crushing their spirit. Instead we keep them in the drive and they get a TD out of it a couple plays later. Just something I was thinking about after the game. I thought the targeting call on Battle was 50/50 and of course I am biased but I think they are being way too sensitive with these things. It doesn't seem like this is a real issue with us but man, that one play and this could have been a completely different game.
I thought Battle was definitely the right call but I don’t blame Battle because the runner was at the sticks. That PF was the whole game though. I don’t think it was a PF but Anthony didn’t exactly help by throwing his hands up immediately
seems like anything even close, they’re going to lean toward calling the target. right or wrong. i was actually shocked to see them overrule one in the TCU/OSU game last night that was a 50/50 call.
Discussed a lot in the game thread when it happened. I thought he got the QB on the shoulder pads and that it was a bad call. Most seemed to disagree with me.
that’s another one they’re gonna call more often than not. his hands barely grazed the QB facemask. but hands anywhere near thea’s is typically gonna get a flag.
As Nootch said, can't get near the head or facemask. The shove didn't help either. I can totally see how they would call it and as much as I hate to, agree with the call. If the roles were reversed we'd be screaming if it wasn't called. I think it was probably amped up emotions more than anything and I hope they all learn from it.
It must be exceptionally hard to frantically pursue the QB and then have to put the brakes on and restrain yourself once the ball is released. Still, gotta do it or you're extending drives for the opponent.
