this is assuming Russell Shepard is living up to his hype. Have RS in the slot and TH at RB in the game, have RS go in motion but fake the ball to him around the end and pitch it out to TH around the opposite end and Holiday should have nothing but daylight to the endzone and nobody is going to catch him.
A defense would almost have to treat that combination of backs like a medium pass play. Either use a zone, or bring the safeties up with the corners going one-on-one. No way would I waste a linebacker or DB on a blitz, since I'd need a middle LB to spy Jefferson if he scrambles. Even with that, Jefferson could use a read to see if any receivers have their men beat instead of dumping the ball off to Trindon. A very nice problem to have!
Maybe I'm in the minority, but I'm not a fan of TH as a RB. He's so limited in that position, that when he lines up, defenses can key on him and have the angles to stop him. With TH, if you have the angles, he's done. He's not a shifty guy. He's a dangerous SB and PR/KR guy (when he doesn't fumble or catch them inside the 10! ) Now, that said, your scenario works equally well with KW or RM or DCalhoun. Shep is going to present Def Coords with personnel and scheme challenges if he knows the playbook well enough to lineup in different spots. This is gonna be a fun offense!
You TH hater!! :hihi: (you should know you're not allowed to say anything at all remotely negative about anyone on the team)
Holliday split wide, Jefferson under center with Dugas and Shepard lined in a split I formation... Put holliday or Shepard in motion and hand off to Dugas up the middle where he proceeds to run over or carry the opposing team's tiny secondary. I'm sorry, I love seeing the fullback truck over people.
The problem with TH at RB is that we only put him in when we're going to give him the ball do defenses can key on him when he's in. Not much he can do when he doesn't have the ball other than be a decoy. His blocking won't be very effective, well, unless he ties someone's shoestrings together while he's down there.
How about this... Jefferson in the gun with Holliday lined up next to him, Shepard in the slot, Toliver wide, and Lefell wide to the other side. Send TT deep, TH in a screen route, BL over the middle and LATERAL the ball to RS. What you get is Shepard with the ball outside the numbers with the option to tuck it and run, dump it to TH in the flats, go over the middle to BL, deep to TT, or, if all else fails, back across the field to JJ, who has similar options. This is, of course, assuming RS can throw.
KISS... KEEP IT SIMPLE STUPID is a motto that most good coaches live by... Pistol set, RS at QB, TH at TB... Speed Option... Who are you going to key on? Send the house and next time RS takes two steps, slides back, and hits Lafell on a deep post...
I don't know about running the option with TH. Trindon does his best work in open space, and a quick LB or DB can take him down before he gets those legs going. Not to mention his hands issues having to catch a pass in traffic.
