    I know, but he changed his point to that. My counter is that South Korea ( or any other country) will not hesitate to use government influence to protect their economy when it is in their interests to do so.

    South Korea's government has never messed with the economy. Even during the crippling Asian recessions of the 90s, they let the economy correct itself. That is the point. They didn't inflate bubbles propping up banks with bad business models. They let them fail, and the pain was short term.
