The other side of the recruiting coin is player development.

And that's probably why Ware was used the way he was, and not Shepard. With Miles it's said it's all about practice, maybe 10 just didn't stand out at practice, couldn't grasp the offense, couldn't block with consistency, was out of place in route running. There are alot of things fans don't see. I'll defer to their choices, but I do think if all those things occurred, he would have been better served as a tailback. However would have been buried in the depth chart. So in all honesty and on the other side of the coin, I feel the staff did alot to help this young man get on the field, even playing him on special teams, where in my opinion he was the most effective. All we need to know about how Miles felt about 10 was in that press conference and I would be very disappointed with Shepard if he came out and had anything negative to say about Coach Miles.

We saw the real Crowton O at Oregon, LSU & Maryland and it was the same everywhere without direction, over complicated and always performed worse as the years went on. He could design plays but had no capability to put an offense together.

The Crow looked to be throwing plays out to see what would work. Jimbo did a good job of setup plays. Most OC will make a list of plays (Say 15-25) and if they are up by 10 or down by 10, use those plays. Then feed off of what works and what doesn't. The best OC LSU has is down on the field, Krags. A good OC/QB Coach knows the throws his QB can make to get the yards needed.

the only way i cant judge player development is on the field. the recruiting rankings seem to be greatly flawed. but since most of us dont see these guys play until they are developed, how can you determine this? i guess it has to be players that played before they were ready out of necessity---hatch, lee, jefferson, collins, martin, thompson, hatcher, turner, porter, alexander, tbob. who else? maybe a linebacker somewhere muncie, sanders. how many of them improved more than you'd expect?

for me, its impossible to determine unless you are in the program. its completely linked to recruiting.

I know Rivals is prone to change their rankings to make themselves look like "they had it figured out" but as I look today it shows Claiborne with 3, Brockers with 4, Sheppard and Riley both 3. However, RECENT transferee to Tulane Chris Davenport is a 5 star................so based on his pretty limited playing time is he somewhat of a "bust/overrated" OR did his position coach who is coming under fire in other areas not get the most out of him??? Hmmmmmm........

As some High School players don't live up to their "5 Star" rankings and some "3 Star" players become superstars, the same thing seems to happen in the NFL......Ryan Leaf, bust, Bosworth (special on ESPN is cool btw) bust....etc.....And the opposite can be said for success stories.

Just called Sports or Life I guess....

This is football, like it or not. Equal Opportunity, like I always say, everyone gets the same chance, its what you do with it.
