I've been watching golf a long, long time. I don't know that I've ever seen a round like this. Particularly in the final round of a major.
I've seen leaders blow up in the last round but I've never seen anybody recover from such a bad start.
Johnny Miller rightfully said this was the greatest ending to a championship (I assume he was referring to a major championship) the way Spieth played down the stretch.
Great, yes. The greatest, I don't know. There have been lots of great endings in the 100+ years of major golf tournaments.
Last year's Open may have been the greatest dual/finish of all-time - definitely surpassed '77 at Turnberry. Spieth was lucky he was playing with the nicest guy on earth. Anyone else would have cracked a 6 iron over his neck for taking that long to hit a shot.
5 under over the last 5 holes, It's never been done And couple that with what looked to be another meltdown at a major for Spieth up to that point Closest I remember is Schwartzel at the Masters ending with 4 straight birdies to win. The problem with that is he finished ahead of several golfers still on the course, not quite the same as having to do it in the very last grouping.
