I'm starting to realize that liberalism may just be something that is great in theory, and only for young people. It sounds great, free school, equal rights for all, free healthcare, but the older I get it seems the more conservative I get. Now I don't know if it's because I'm a father, I don't know if it's because I'm tired of freeloaders that surround me, or all this PC disease that has come to roost in this country, or if it's Muslims. But I know that I feel things currently that my 10 year ago self would have cursed me out for. Don't get me wrong I'm no conservative, but I think I'm more conservative than I ever have been. Is it age?
I once read that anyone who is NOT a liberal at 20 is an asshole, and anyone who is not conservative at 40 is a fool. I expect this applies to the fiscal nature of liberalism/conservatism and not to much to other social aspects. At some point you get tired of seeing your money going away to feckless causes.
It was Winston Churchill who said it 'Anyone who isn't a liberal by age 20 has no heart. Anyone who isn't a conservative at 40 is a fool'. http://www.writersmugs.com/quotes.php?day=231
By the time you get to your 40's, you actually know who you are and what you believe. I find that I am far more liberal on some social issues than I was when I was younger. However, on other issues like abortion, I feel much more strongly now that it is wrong (I suppose because I am not worried about an unplanned pregnancy anymore?) But the PC nonsense right now that is out and about is likely to swing me back around to being more conservative on pretty much everything.
I'm just sick of this generation of college kids with all of their hurt feelings and demands of sensitivity training for adults. They should have their ass bent over and beat.
Today's Liberals have completely ruined it for me. Let's take Donald Trump for example. Is he a pompous jerk? Of course he is. Does that mean he should be censored, or banned from places for speaking his mind? Hell no. College kids trying to run off presidents because their witty feewings are hurt? Where the hell did liberalism take this dramatic left turn?
Hate to break it to you, but you are firmly in lockstep with Rush Limbaugh here. I've heard him say many times that young adults tend to start liberal and embrace conservatism as they get older and more wise to the world.
