Barnes jumped a snake on 10. I fully expect him to fold like a cheap suit in the 4th round, but Lefty and Tiger have too many good golfers to overtake to have a shot.
Tiger needs to make a few more birdies and get to -1, -2 before the round ends, but if he gets to within 3-4 shots before day's end, EVERYONE tends to fold like a cheap suit when he is charging, for whatever reason.
I hope Mickelson can go low with a final round 66 and pull this one out. I got the winning score at -6. Duval would also be a tremendous story and I would have absolutely no problem with him winning.
Actually this has not been the case in his career. He is the best front runner ever in the history of sport, but come from behind victories have been few and far between. He has exactly zero of them in the majors.
Only three active players on Tour have have more wins than Tiger has comeback wins. Only difference in a major is it is tougher for Tiger to go and get them and the leaders are generally better players. It only takes one guy to beat Tiger, but its no secret that most of them suck with him nearby. With that being said if he wins it will be the most amazing three hours of golf ever.
Well golf is not like football, basketball, etc. You can't just take over a golf course whenever you want. Even tho Tiger makes it look like he can sometimes, i.e. the Memorial two weeks ago. But Tiger's two wins this year were incredible come from behind victories on Sunday, 5 and 4 shots behind. Tiger could have had another one this week if the flatstick was working. Today he could have easily shot 5 or 6 under to get within 3 or 4 shots of the lead going into the final round. Not that he won't win, but 7 shots back in the US Open will be very hard to do. But i've learned, you never count Tiger out.
Glover is in the drivers seat. The nerves are getting to Barnes. I think 5 back is too much for DD to overcome.
Still 8 shots back and he is already 8 holes into the final round. He aint winning this one. I know, really going out on a limb huh. Fact is, Tiger had a really good look at two baskets full of birdie puts that he just didn't sink. Had he put half of them in the cup he would probably have the lead. The flatstick let him down in a big way this weekend.
Has this been about the worst major tournament ever or what. I mean come on, Lucas Glover and Ricky Barnes. What is that line in the movie Major League, "who the fug are these guys?" From rain to bad luck weather draws to unknowns crowding the leader board to players not even knowing what day or round they are on to -7 on Bethpage? Maybe a miracle happens tomorrow and it gets interesting but this has been one fugly event to try and keep up with. Just painful.
All very true but this is what sticks in my mind, how in the hell can these two clowns put up those numbers while Tiger is +4 through most of the tourney. Like I posted above, he (TW) had more than enough really good looks at birdie putts, he just yipped almost all of them.
