From ESPN's Page 2 mailbag Sounds like a fair deal to me. They aren't giving him enough at bats to even attempt to get into a groove, or even try to reach the potential a LOT of people see in this kid.
i read it right after though they've been talking about it for some time. i certainly knew they wouldnt send down gagne so was kinda tongue in cheek. i guess lester is struggling and figured the dh'er would be a good time to try it out. clay is certainly a nice prospect. In 2006, Buchholz actually let loose towards the end of the season, when his fastball was sitting around 96 mph. However, over the course of the season his fastball typically sits around 91-94 and tops out at about 97 mph. His plus change-up is generally a straight change that sits around 78-82 mph; he also throws a circle change. His curveball, the best in the organization, sits between 76-81 mph with a knee-buckling bite. On any given night, Buchholz's curve or change can be unhittable, and he tends to rely on whichever is on as his out pitch throughout the game. His slider, while average to above average, is a bit behind his other secondary pitches and sits in the low to mid 80s. Mixes in all of his pitches phenomenally. Good demeanor on the mound. Pitches well under pressure, pitching coaches have said he has ice water running through his veins. Nice pick-off move. Struggled with consistency early in his pro career, but otherwise has ace makeup. Might need to add and maintain some weight to endure a full major league season. Awards (cont.) Lester is having a good night so far tonight. @ hits, 1 walk, 1 run through 6. However, each of his last 2 starts started out strong, then he fades right about this time of the game. Hopefully, since it's the D-Rays, he'll go deeper than he has been. Especially with baltimore putting it on NY thus far tonight. Edit: He'll get another no-decision tonight. Lowell tied it up with a solo shot in the ninth. Pretty much how I'm looking at it right now. I'm thankful that his horrible stretch was when Boston had their big lead, and not happening right now. Would also be nice if Manny can remember he's Manny on a more consistent basis down the stretch. Same with Ortiz.
Maybe Gagne heard you. He just struck out the side. He did give up a double off the right field wall though.
I agree with both you and Tirk on Gagne's AWFUL start in Boston, but I'm going to give him a few more games before I start calling for his head. Sending him down to AAA might appear to be a perfect and deserved punishment, but I DOUBT Gagne has any minor league options left...
Well, he got the win tonight. Looked pretty good doing it. The only hit they got was a double to right on a pitch that was high and outside. Usually you can get a hitter to chase it and miss. Well this guy didn't miss. I'm thinking the boo-birds that came out in full force after he went 3-0 to his first batter might have shook something in his skull. The announcers for NESN tonight said it could be a mental thing about pitching in the 8th instead of the high pressure svae situations of the ninth. I kinda understand their point (adrenaline), but not sure I agree with it. But then again, tonights solid performance was in the 9th.
I sat four seats over from Tim Robbins at Shea last night. He didn't even acknowledge my drunk brother calling him "Meat" for three innings straight. Not even a response after Alou went deep and he hit him with the obligatory "He hit the … bull! He gets a free steak." If you see him around tell him to stop spreading his commie propaganda and grow a sense of humor. Thanks SG. --Frank B., New York what i would have given to be part of that. he hit the fn bull had to have been priceless.
Nah, not even close. I'm a lil more than an hour south of New Orleans. I wonder if it's this hot in New England right now.
