I don't trust the Brewers or the Cubs, so I would say it's better than 5%. A good deal could make it much, much more.
Gagne to Boston. If Schilling can contribute at all that will be one hell of a team come playoff time.
hell, even if he doesn't, they have Beckett and Dice-K, and with Gagne, the Japanese reliever, and Papelbon, they just need to piece 6 innings somewhere, because if they're up after 6, it's over.
Is that official? Neither Boston's website nor ESPN's is reporting it yet? *Edit: Boston's website now reporting that the teams have agreed in principle to the trade, pending a medical exam, and negotiations with Gagne to waive his no-trade clause*
this is just FYI, but the 4th prospect in the Braves Teixiera deal is former Destrehan High School phenom Beau Jones.
NESN is reporting that the Gagne deal is official. Gagne waived his no-trade clause and agreed to be a set-up man. Texas gets a pair of outfield prospects (thankfully not Jacoby Ellsbury), and Kason Gabbard. Gabbard has some potential, he filled in pretty well for Schilling other than one start where he couldn't find the strike zone. The Dye deal appears to be off, his agent says they are working on an extension with Chicago.
Watch out for the Padres. They made a huge move and acquired Ensberg! Whats that? Ensberg is batting .232? Slugging worse than Yadier Molina? Sent to AAA? Oh wait... he sucks. Forgot.
"We've got a World Series team,'' shortstop Edgar Renteria said." from an article i just read about the braves' trades. word series team? yeah, if john smotz could clone himself 4 times.
great day to be a bosox fan. reports are that schilling is looking really sharp. if all stay healthy will be hard to beat!!:thumb:
It sounds like Purpura managed to get over big-time. He was able to get...ummm...well, a player-to-be-named later, or cash considerations, which is quaint since the 'Stros are paying Ensberg's salary for the rest of the year. :nope: Too bad that Ensberg dropped off so much, as he really seemed like a great guy. Of course, heading to San Diego is pretty great and pocketing over four million dollars this year isn't too shabby.
