looks like the mets actually will get castillo, for some pretty low level minro league guys. one is drew butera, who for some reason tirk used to talk about, and the other is a no-name with the brooklyn cyclones. butera is a no-bat defensive specialist if i remember correctly. this seems pretty cheap for castillo, who is a very solid player and will definitely improve the mets.
you just answered my questions, because I thought a catcher and outfielder was a lot to give, because those are two future needs, but if they are low-level dudes, then by all means it's a solid deal, because Castillo is pretty good and Valentin as a PH if he comes back is pretty good, too.
Ensberg has no trade value, so he'll hit the free agent market. Even if he did have trade value, Purpura would give him up for a 44 year old Double A bullpen catcher.
wait until this winter....i can think of an all-star ss playing out of position who will fit in pretty well for the sox.....if the bosox could add another bullpen arm & dye with schilling coming back then they'll be set.
Dude has a great bat, and was an amazing SS, but I don't think his whiny attitude would mesh well with the Boston locker room. A-Rod's best bet is to some how end up in the Cubs line-up. The fans there will love him no matter what. And he needs that. If he can't handle the heat of the New York papers (which are extremely tough), there's no way he could handle the pressure of the Boston , the worl is coming to an end doomsday, papers.
i think the cap & papi will take care of the attitude...if the clubhouse survives "manny being manny" then i think they can handle arod.
I think the whole "Manny being Manny" thing is blown completely outta proportion. Yeah he's a weird guy, and says and does some dumb things, but none of his teamates (past or present) really have anything bad to say about him. By all accounts, he's a hard working guy and would do anything for any one of his teammates. Not a whole lot of A-Rod's team mates (past or present) have ever come to his defense. Not sure the status of Michael Young's contract in Texas, but he seems like a guy that would fit in well with the Sox. Hanley Ramirez would have been nice to keep, but getting Beckett and Lowell for him looks like a win/win for both teams so far.
Cardinals need to Trade Eck, and Encarnacion for a starting pitcher. They have Brendon Ryan to cover short stop in AAA and Rick Ankiel just his his 31st home run of the year in AAA as well.... The cardinals also have a couple releivers they can part with to sweeten the deal. 6 games is a lot for this team to overcome, but it doesn't seem any more daunting than a World Series run last year (Especially if Mulder comes back in a couple of weeks) *For the record, I know that there is about a 5% chance of the Cards making the playoffs, but management in StL is never one to concede a season.
Cards just got Joel Pineiro from Boston. Not a great pitcher, but he's been decent in middle relief. Rumor has that the BoSox are still going after Dye. ESPN mentioned that Wily Mo Pena will be included in the deal, and possibly Manny Delcarmen. Theo has said more than once that they weren't parting with Delcarmen, more liely to be Craig Hansen. I'd be ok with getting Dye, he could spell Drew when his quad acts up again in a couple of days.
