Let's have a little fun... List your team, and list what you would like at the deadline... please be serious... meaning no clowns saying they want Albert Pujols. I can start by saying my team is the Braves and I want a left-handed reliever, a No. 4 starter and a decent bat. I was going to PM Martin, Nutria, TigerBait, etc... but figured it would be easier to just ask this.
i would like the metropolitans to not trade away lastings milledge, because he is exactly what they need now and going forward. i would also like to see the mets not make a trade for any 2B. i do not think anyone is available that is a real upgrade. the only trade that i am ok with is one that brings eric gagne for nothing, or one that involves minor leaguers that brings a promising young catcher to the system. i hope the mets do nothing.
would you do Milledge for Gagne and a promising young catcher? And also, if you could get Luis Castillo, would you? He and Reyes at the top of the order is like Furcal and Pierre, except they are 2 guys that actually get on base.
he would have to be hella promising, as gagne is gonna be a rental, and next year the mets have beltran and nothing else in the outfield. i dunno enough about the minors, but if there is a kid out there that is a top 10 prospect and is a catcher, then yes. gagne would be fantastic to have in the playoffs. yes, but i would expect the price would be too high, and i am optimistic that ruben gotay will develop as a league average 2b. also, i expect lastings milledge to be the 2-hole hitter for the future. if you could trade for the carloses to play to their potential, then i would do that. long-term needs are catcher and 1b, but that is of no real concern now, this is a win-now team. things would be slightly different if pedro were not expected to return for the playoffs. playoffs rotation: pedro (hopefully) maine - silently a top 5 NL pitcher 12-5 2.9 ERA oliver perez 2.8 ERA glavine
the mutts pitchers are as good or better than anyone in the NL that isnt san diego, who is fielding a team of cy youngs. but SD is such a miserable hitting team that they are not a threat. the only threat to the mets is in boston, but they will be defeated, with mookie wilson in the stands at shea smiling.
Braves: Keep Salty unless you get a damn good bat AND a good reliever. If not, just go get a couple of lefty relievers.
Boston could use another bat. Texeira and Dye are the guys most often mentioned as being available. Problem for Boston, is where do you put these guys? Tex is a good young switch hitter who has some pop in his bat. Boston has Youk playing 1st who isn't going anywhere, and Tex ain't gonna replave Papi at DH. Only thing I could see is move Youk back to 3rd (where he broke into the bigs) since Lowell will be a free agent at the end of the year. Dye is a little easier, since J.D. Drew has underperformed this year, and Willy Mo ain't exactly a good every day option either. Problem is Drew makes to much money to ride the bench. Unless they can package Drew in the deal somehow, this one will be tough to make happen. Another frontline pitcher would make Boston to easy favorite to represent the AL in the WS. With Buehrle off the market, whose left? ESPN reports Kyle Lohse is on the market, but I don't thik he's the answer. Gagne would be a solid pick-up, but not really needed by the Sox. Dotel is pretty much the same as Gagne. Also, I would be happy as hell if they figure out a way to unload Julio Lugo. Sure he's doing well now, but he was below the Mendoza line at the break, is only slightyly better than average on defense, and is a career .270 hitter with not much power. Boston NEEDS to find a SS that can stick. Counting Nomar, they have had a different starter at Short every year since '04 (plus Orlando Cabrrera for the second half of '04). They should never have let Cabrerra leave town.
