If you are $150,000 in debt and have a net worth of $1.5 million, you are not broke. A $150,000 mortgage is not uncommon for working people and they are not broke for having one. Your annual income is irrelevant if your net worth is high. Anyone making $150,000 a year should have a 7-figure net worth. Anyone making $150,000 a year can service a $150,000 mortgage with ease. Bankers line up to loan money to such a person.

Being broke is having $150,000 of debt with $50,000 of net worth and $30,000 in income.

You just pull out the typical conservative lies and fear tactics . . . we are broke, the country is falling apart, we are doomed, and the sky is falling. It's bullchit.

Because taxes have been lowered to the point that not enough is collected to pay down the debt. Under Clinton we posted surpluses and were paying down the debt with it. But the Republicans went on a spending spree under Bush and irresponsibly cut income at the same time. That is what caused the whole debt issue. Republicans want something for nothing and that has never worked anytime in history.

    Stop spending. Quite simple, actually.

This is absolute nonsense. The Democrats did just as much spending as the Republicans. Obama and the Pelosi led Congress. Statements like this make you look not so moderate. One side is just as bad as the other. You couldn't tax people enough or take all of their income and pay off the debt and deficits in this country. If the government was your kid and your kid continually wasted your money or abused your car you certainly wouldn't continue to give them more money or let them have the privilege of driving your car either. Government and political greed and corruption are the problem here.

What do you propose that we cut from? You never have an answer to this?

The Clinton democrats payed for their spending with taxes and were paying down the debt. The republicans irresponsibly cut taxes while raising spending, precipitating this problem.

That was also part of the Republicans contract with America when they won Congress in 1993.
You are partly correct, as we learned last spring when the Republicans took over Congress, the Congress is responsible for paying the bills, budgets, etc.
You are totally ignoring Pelosi's Democrat Congress in this including during Obama's term. You are ignoring recent history.
Edit: At any rate the Democrats have done the same thing, they have spent money like drunken sailors, didn't have a budget for the last 2 years in house or senate, democrat president. They are just as responsible for the problem as Republicans and yet you support the Democrats and won't support the Republicans. They are all the same in the big picture of bankrupting the country, you just get there faster with liberal Democrats and liberal Republicans vs Fiscal Conservatives.
