I'm not sure Hawkeye fans have been this excited about a kicker since Reggie Roby. When Roby was at Iowa in the early 80's, we use to get to the stadium early just to ohhh and ahhh watching him practice. Now we get Jonny Mullings from Australia, 6"4", 215 lbs, who's "leg up around his helmet hole" when finishing a kick is definitely Reggie Roby-style. Ferentz says he's never seen anything like this kid. Of course, he talks about his 1430 SAT score (like it matters...), but Mullings has been working with an American football for two years now and he can kick off into the endzone "every time" and his punting.... well, 60 yards with a five second hang time "average" in definitely Reggie Robyish. He is now off greyshirt and on scholarship for this fall, and although we have senior Ryan Dohahue (Ray Guy candidate) back this fall, methinks there will be some competition. I know, I know, who gives a ratsass about kickers... but this one should be fun to watch!! Future Iowa Hawkeyes Punter Jonny Mullings the Steal from "Down Under" | Bleacher Report
Funny you should post this because just this morning I woke up wondering what Iowa was going to do about its punting this year.
LOL.... Hey, I just got back from two weeks in Italy... way too much of their "forum" and way too little of ours!!! (had trouble getting on line....) And, yes, my bad, I thought the college sports forum might just include things outside the SEC...
My Florida-native friends in college used to laugh at me when I'd get excited about Morton Andersen's kickoffs, so I can relate.
i know it is just a punter, but damn it seems like that kid has some nice raw talent. 60+ yards, 5+ seconds. He could be a nice weapon.
