Let me just say that I am surprised by the some people's negativity on this board about the football season. The funny thing to me is that the same people posting this negative stuff would be saying the same thing if this team had less wins or no wins. I am amazed at the negative posts about the Washington game. We could've lost this game like USC but we found a way to win. If there is anything I learned from last year is that a win is a win. It looks to me that this team is improved over last year. I'll take any win over any team for any reason anyday! Let me just say that I am really pleased with Les Mile's record versus OOC teams including post season. Yes, I wish we were playing better but we are improved over last year and I'll take it! It could be worse, we could be as bad as some other teams out there. We could've lost 2 close ones already this year to Washington and MSU. I'm willing to bet that MSU is much improved and will make the west and SEC that much tougher this year despite their record so far.opcorn:
Agreed. Just to be clear, the team is not above criticism, but saying 'the Oline sux' or 'Miles must go' is not the way to go about it. There's a way to be tactful and a way to be inflammatory. The latter will get you called out every time. In the day and age of scholarship limitations and spread offenses, parity in college football has never been greater. Used to be a DI-AA (or whatever it's called now) wouldn't come within 30pts of a BCS conference school. Now they're winning at such a rate that it's no longer surprising. Any given Saturday is here to stay, so might as well get used to it.
It's hard for some to take their emotions from immediately following the game and express constructive views. Many want to find someone to blame. It's the ones that persist that become pathologic. Most from earlier today are calming down and becoming more coherent, but not all.
You helped my make my point clearer, I don't mind people criticizing the team or the coaches but some have gone to far! On a positive note, the same coaches that teach and work with whatever problems some people have with this team also worked with Chad Jones. No player was bigger than he in the MSU game today, he made every big play to win this game. Let me say Chad Jones one more time, the same player that pitched during the college world series that was part of the baseball championship. Thats what I'm talkin about baby!:tigbas:
Exactly, when this mentality sets in, and when a team is happy to win and let teams hang around, it will come back to bite 'em. LSU scored 14 offensive points to Miss. State's 24. You think that'll fly against UF? Maybe we'll blow out UGA, who knows?
I agree. I was reading all the mess on here late in the game and afterwards. Some of you really amaze me. Let me say this- We're a sloppy team. It is what it is and it's hard to watch. I had a baseball team this past year that was the same way. We looked good in practice. My infielders made all the plays I taught them. Over and Over again. My outfield would stop the ball and get it to second base quickly. Everyone knew what to do and did it fairly efficiently during practice. The next day we'd play again and we couldn't get anyone out anywhere. I just couldn't understand why these kids couldn't get it done during the games. I kept working my kids and working my kids. We improved a good bit over the course of the season. Patience people. Patience. This team has a lot of talent and hasn't hit it's stride yet. :crystal::geaux::crystal::geaux::crystal:
And all of the negative, malcontent posters all seem to believe that college football must remain "status quo"; that the elite teams must stay elite and that the doormats never improve. Guess they all forgot how bad we were in through most of the '90's. It's one thing to call out a bad play(s) during a game when the tension is high. Trust me! I yell and scream at the TV as if my voice magically finds it's way to the ears of those on the field. If the game resulted in a loss, YES, I feel that criticism (no matter how irrational, see: FIRE <insert name> NOW!) is warranted. No, not everything needs to be rosy...but c'mon! You're asking for drastic changes after WINNING the game! It's the aftermath "this is the beginning of the end"-type sh*t that has me miffed. We won, guys. Some people call themselves Tiger fans, bash a player for his poor play but then ignore a great play because that might contradict what they've been harping on. For instance: Jefferson finally completes a deep ball of over 30 yards and one of the FIRST responses was, "he stinks and underthrew him". Even when we score the TD on the drive, people were STILL giving JJ crap for Tolliver NOT being hit in stride to score. Ugh? HELLO! The drive STILL ended in a TD.
Technically we scored 17 and missed a 20 yard FG. So the offense should have produced 20 points total. And we did hand them 7 points on the botched punt. So they had 17 offensively. It kinda evened out for the most part. Your point is well taken however.
Well, MSU had the ball on the 1 yard line on 2 seperate possessions and one of them was a gift-wrapped botched punt. But you're right. Our offense DOES need to put more than 14 points on the board if we're to beat Florida. I think we have the talent to do it but we just haven't seen that talent really "click" yet. So I won't be surprised if we beat the Gators because we all know what our players are capable of doing. But Florida has been the unanamous pick to repeat as National Champions and return their entire defense from last year's title squad, so even in a loss to them, my world won't coming crashing to a halt and I won't view the season as a failure just because of it.
