The turning point was the missed par putt on 11 by Spieth. You figured he was going to hole another crucial putt and it lipped by. That got the Spieth team flag hunting on 12. And of course we know what happened there. If he's 6 under headed to 12, they play it safe over the bunker on the left side of the hole and 2 putt from there.
Defending champ has to put the green jacket on the winner. It's one thing to have to do it if you are never in serious contention or even if you play great and the other guy just plays better and beats you. Quite another thing to have a 5 stroke lead and blow it and still have to drape the greenery on the winner.
Spieth was flag hunting before that but since it paid off you didnt notice. The turning point was the 7 on the par 3 twelfth. Obviously.
he also decided to hit the same cut shot into the 12th green in 2014 and cost him the masters against Bubba Watson We should be looking at the first time 3 peat Masters champion.
a 9 shot swing on the leaderboard in just 1 hour of play worst than the Greg Norman debacle in 96, at least that was a slow trainwreck, this one was at lightning speed
I wouldn't feel all that bad if I was Spieth. He gets to take home a very nice parting gift, a check for around ,$500k or so. I wish I could finish 3rd or 4th in the Masters once a year.
