I see several people referencing the trophy. Where's the pic of this trophy? It's not in this thread, is there an article referenced somewhere that has one?
it WILL catch on. LSU athletics and the media at large will ensure it does catch on. name it - market it - bank it.
Never going to catch on because all the older and wiser fans don't like the idea of naming the game and the current students could care less because it really isn't a rivalry anymore. The last time Ole Miss was relevant more than one year at a time was the 70's. They can waste all the money they want on it. It just will not catch on.
I'm no fan of Toonces, but he isn't as bad when they don't have the swirl thing around him and its just his head... just saying. I still prefer old school. That was such a waste of money.
C'mon, guys...at least it's not something REALLY silly like, say...the "Egg Bowl" or something! :hihi:
By creating a logo for the game, it creates another marketing opportunity for LSU and Ole Miss to make more $$$ by getting a corporate sponsor for the game. That money will be used by both LSU and Ole Miss to build stronger football programs, better facilities, etc. It is something more and more schools have been doing. For example: To see a picture of this State Farm Bayou Classic logo on the side of the playing field at the game, complete with other State Farm advertising, see http://media.2theadvocate.com/images/bayou+112107.jpg To see a picture of the Lone Star Showdown logo being used on Wheaties cereal boxes, see -- http://www.40acressports.com/images/wheaties-longhorns-aggies.jpg
A lot of those games are played at a nutral site (not all). A lot of those games have a long historic rivalry that was named a long time ago. A lot of those games are not as one sided as LSU Ole Miss or LSU Arkansas. We've been "battling for the boot" since sometime in the mid-90's and we don't have a corporate sponsorship for it. I just don't see it taking flight and if it doesn't, no corporation's going to start sponsoring it. Especially with all their budgets shrinking with the economy the way it is. LSU doesn't have a historic rivalry anymore and biggest games each year are the ones that have us competeing with the Wester Division title on the line. And everyone of those teams has a bigger historic rival or rivalry game than us.
