O should be fired for this. Anyone see his post game presser where he threw Peetz and Max under the bus..? O was asked if he expected the offensive line given they are veterans to perform better than they have. O said he was shocked by how bad the line has been cause two of our guys were on the national title team and they're all veterans so he felt they would actually be the strength of the team he would lean on. WHAT?! Did any fan, ANY fan who follows LSU closely feel good about our OL coming in let alone think it was the strength of our team? Receivers and DL had the most talent so those were the obvious strengths. Everyone I knew was hoping the line would be decent, but it was hope and prayer. Just how do you watch this unit all year long every single day and think you have any confidence in them?! Blew my mind.
Well I believe that those two veterans should be better. Shanahan is not good. I can’t believe that no one on the team is better than Hines… But the center is our problem in my opinion…
O let his buddy Cregg who proved in year one he was an AWFUL recruiter stay on for five years. This is all on O. Fans have wanted Cregg fired every year he's been here who follow recruiting. I wanted him gone even after the Joe Moore Award in '19. Burrow inspired those guys and pushed them. Cregg was an average at best coach and one of the worst recruiters we've ever had on campus. He got fired for cheating to land 5 Star OT Tristan Leigh this past year.. and he DID NOT land him! He can't cheat right and even when he did cheat he still couldn't close. Just so bad lol.
So are the OL players bad, poorly coached, scheme? Why haven’t they played everyone of them on the roster? The obvious run play situations were mind numbing.
Shanahan is literally the only center we have that can successfully snap the ball consistently. The backups are atrocious. The guards are all terrible. Our NFL LT was kicked out of school for smoking weed and went to Kentucky which forced Cam Wire to play but he's been hurt all year. Rookie Dellenger will be a good one in three years but isn't now. Bradford is immensely talented but always fat. Over 400 at times. Ed Ingram was a stud freshman and he's somehow now our worst lineman. Deculus is a guard on any good line but we are so bad at recruiting he's been right tackle for us the whole time, which is a massive disservice to him. The guys we've had that were successful made themselves into good players, we've rarely coached them up and we have had terrible Evals while missing on the best prospects. Cregg got beat for 2 freshman that are starting on the OL for Jimbo. They're bad right now, center Foster and guard Fatheree, but in 3 years they're gonna be studs. You gotta let OL sit and get into shape and develop physically for years before you play them. Wisconsin usually has guys who are fifth year seniors and almost always have great lines as a result. You go there get developed both technically but also physically and you learn one another as a unit. We are a mix and match of scavenged parts from various junkyards trying to power the engine of a Tesla cyber truck. It ain't ideal.
Sometimes youre too close to the problem to see it. If our Dline is getting 50/50 push on Oline and vice versa, then they think we good based on historical dominance of opponents.
Can't help but think he's trying to avoid injury at all cost in the hopes he'll be a first day draft pick. That mindset pisses me off to no end. If I were coach, LSU would only have 'Pro Days' in years where the team wins more than 10 games. Otherwise the underachievers can get lost in the crowds at the combine.
Herb! Great to see you my brother. How have things been? Dude the Ed Ingram thing is maybe the most puzzling thing of anything that's happened under O from a technical standpoint for me. Ed balled out as a freshman which is so rare and then obviously he was out with legal troubles in 19 until he was eventually cleared, but he was working himself back into that guy once again. An easy 2nd or 3rd rounder which is great for a guard.. and now he misses blocks, literally goes the wrong way, has no concept of playing with his base and just using fundamentals that should be natural for him. It's not just effort which is gone but like he doesn't even show form anymore? He's what should have been an all conference guy for us who is actually our worst lineman which says a lot when Hines plays. Man that dude has so much ability, but. Gah.
@Brian it's always good to see you. Life is good when you're posting often...you've always been insightful here as well as on Saints forums we used to enjoy together. I've thought about Ingram a lot. You hit it on the head...he was a beast and when he came back to the team, our QBs would anchor behind him. I was expecting him to be a road grader for Emery this year...good thing I didn't put money down on that. The only explanations I can come up with are: Maybe if Orgeron is off the wagon, he's checked out because nobody likes to work for a drunk clown. Maybe Ingram is intoxicated during games and literally can't react to the snap/play call/ moment. He's avoiding injury at all cost because he wants an NFL future. There may be others?
