    Lee was a human torturer, a traitor to his country, and not very good at generalling, either. The ONLY reason to memorialize him in New Orleans was as a statement that the Confederate cause was just. It wasn't. It was New Orleans's moral duty to clean its sin.

    You have a point. Using the same logic, can we exile every California resident who wants to secede in the here and now?
    Pretty much every military historian in the history of America, especially the ones who have actually served in the military, would laugh in your face at that statement.

    And, by the way, it doesn't take a military genius to recognize that Lee's incursion into Maryland and Pennsylvania was BONEHEADED. The net result of his stupid move, aside from the enormous casualties he took, was to resolve the determination of Northerners to win.
