It is all pretty complicated and that is one reason coaches get payed the big bucks. Have to also take into account player dismissed from the team, graduating seniors, and transfers. This opens up room to offer grey shirts and walk-ons scholarships. THe cyclical nature works this way too and is the reason why teams always have the 85 scholarship players on the team each year.
I too questioned why we are filling up all the available scholarships this year and oversigning. With LA supposedly having a great class of recruits next year and fresh off of our national title it would seem prudent to get better players next year instead of turning them away. I think CParso answered that we would give the vacant spots to walk-ons if we left any open. I don't know if that is an actual rule, seems illogical to me, or if it is customary, but that is what I was told.
Players leave every year for various reasons before they use up their eligibility. You can bet at least a couple will leave again during or after the next season freeing up more room. I wouldn't worry Miles isn't new to this recruiting thing, he has a plan.
I talk to a guy who follows Miami recruiting and he seems to think that TJ Bryant is between Alabama and Miami right now. ..Am I crazy, or does this just sound completely different from everything thats come out about the guy lately?
I don't know about Miami...but I'd say Bama definitely has a good shot. He visited there by himself last week...one on one with Saban...who is a DB coachin' bastid.
