FYI Patrick Trahan(former Auburn LB) committed to Ole Miss

via : scout.com Nation's top juco prospect chooses Ole Miss

Patrick Trahan (LB, N' West CC, MS) - Mississippi's 2007 Defensive Player of the Year, and perhaps Ole Miss' most valuable recruit for next year's team, has decided to be a Rebel.

Liuget sounds like he is coming to LSU - see his comments on ESPNs College FB recruits briefing room.

The Recruiting last push is gonna leave us behind three teams in our own conference it seems. Florida, Georgia & Alabama will finish ahead of us. I am not to fond of ether of these teams & it hurts me to have to tip my hat to them for doing a better job of recruiting than we did. Hopefully some of our lower rated recruits will pan out to be better than some of their higher rated guys.
Question: If we take Benton & Brown & neither qualify they won't count against us will they? Also Did Patrick Johnson ever enter school?

If this is the case Benton and Brown will not count towards this class.

PJ will be in school for the Summer. He will miss Spring practice.

There isn't much difference between Georgia, Florida, Bama & LSU's classes. All are very good.

If we had a class of this quality every year, we would still continue to be a national championship contender.

What do you mean count against us? Count against the 24 that we sign in this class? No.

ok,,, so if Benton & Brown don't qualify & they don't count against our offered scolarships how does a school (LSU) handle that? Do they oversign & if they do & then Benton & Brown do qualify who is gonna get left out? The rule is - no more than 85 on scolarship total & no more than 25 per year isn't it? Or is there some variation to the yearly limit? If you oversign do you pay for it (sign less) the following year?

85 scholarship players per year is the only real restriction, I think. I'm not sure if the 25 per year is an actual rule or not. 25x4 = 100, plus redshirts, so obviously you cannot sign a full 25 every year without attrition. LSU only has 24 scholarships this year (next year looks to be about 22). We will sign 28-29 players this year, expecting a few non-qualifiers & if we are still over a couple players from this class will take a grayshirt (most likely Molton, St. Julien).

If we do sign 28-29 players this year then maybe we will move up the team ranking a good bit.. I was thinking 2-3 more at the most.

I was thinking about the cyclical nature of offering scholarships and recruiting. It would seem to add an element of unpredictability to the whole process. I mean, we can't give 25 scholarships EVERY year, so if a year you only have, say, less than twenty scholarships available to offer happens to be a year where you have a lot of talent available to you, that would seem to be a disadvantage.

So, given this year to year discrepency, what is the practicality of actually not offering scholarships in a "down" year and holding back if the next year's recruiting looks like it will be a banner year.

How dumb is it to only have, say 83 or 82 scholarships and save them up for next year? Is this practiced at all?
