except the kids that grew up as ou fans have been conditioned to dislike miles from his days at oklahoma state. for some, that will still hold true. gundy might have a shot at those kids. which happens to be where miles got made in-roads in recruiting at oklahoma state. he already has connections there, so add the fact that lsu is a better program and has a strong following in houston, hopefully the tigers will dominate in recruiting in that area.
Yeah but this ain't Kansas, Dorothy. :hihi: Oh, and they must not be too "Conditioned" cause he had over 30 on his roster his last year at OSU- not to mention him owning Stoops. We're not looking to fill our roster, only a couple here and there and I wouldn't imagine that being too difficult.
2-2 is hardly owning. He beat them his first 2 years, but then got waxed 52-9 on the "which is which" game. I'm a regular over at soonerfans. I'm intimately aware of the animosity and hatred.
True. I was thinking it was his last two years he'd beat a #3 and #4 OU team but it was his first two. :thumb:
If LSU is going to continue to be a top recruiter it HAS to build a fence around the state. Louisiana comes first on the recruiting trail and Miles understands that. He said LSU will recruit Louisiana first. But Louisiana cannot fill all of LSU's recruiting needs, and we must continue to recruit well along the I-10 corridor running from Houston to Florida if the Tigers expect fill in key gaps and to develop the kind of depth it needs to compete nationally.
I'd like to add that keeping up our pipeline into Mobile, Al is important. We've gotten a lot of good recruits out of there and distance wise BR is actually closer to it than T-town, Auburn, Starkville, and Oxford. Its the closest "city" to BR other than N.O. (about 70 miles closer than Houston and 50 miles closer than Shreveport). Outside of locking down LA, keeping a strong presence in Mobile is pretty important and has already been proven to be quite attainable. Of the big-time Mobile recruits this year, we pretty much split em with Auburn and Bama got the leftovers. Houston and east Texas are always what come to mind but I just wanted to point out how fertile Mobile is and how well we've done there lately. There's this guy named Jamarcus Russell from Mobile, Al who might be the #1 draft pick, maybe yall heard of him... :thumb:
Only problem is that Oklahoma isn't a "hot bed" for talent. That's why OU get's so many out of state players.
That should also help us when we recruit there to show a local kid's success at LSU. I bet Saban will sell that success as his own though...
Good point. :thumb: I actually hadn't realized how barren Oklahoma was until checking just now, after I read your post. If I read correctly, with the 3 most highly recruited kids from Oklahoma this year (2007 recruits) only one stayed, another left for Tenn. and the third went to ND. They seem to get a lot from Texas, and scattered out from other States like you said- a couple from La.
