It was said that next year, doing that will bring back the TD. Will it be brought back to the one-yard line? -15 from the line of scrimmage?
I don't care who you are, calling back a TD for that reason will be a travesty. Let the players have some fun. Rediculous!
it is true. if the excessive celebration happens AFTER the td, it's 15yds on kickoff if it happens like the one today, the points come off, 15 yds marked off
That penalty is complete BS. One can argue that leaping like that prevents an opponent from tackling him short of the endzone.
That's what the announcer was saying. That's over-legislating imo. The penalty on the kickoff is harsh enough. And in our game the Ole Miss receiver could have claimed he was diving to avoid the last minute tackle.
I'm beginning to think the NCAA will quietly kill that rule when the rules committee meets in the offseason. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I have yet to see that new rule called once, in any game. According to the existing rule for this year, if you call unsportsmanlike conduct prior to the TD, it is a live ball foul, 15 yards from the spot, no TD.
I'm kind of torn on the upcoming rule. I wouldn't go so far as to calling it a travesty, but I don't think the touchdown should be taken away entirely. I don't see what's wrong with the current rule: 15 yard penalty on the kickoff. Then again, I hate it when players (any sport, any level) taunt their opponents. Be a professional.
