This! IMO, if his head is on right he will be very good. He has the tools and he's a senior. In addition, being a senior it has to be running through his head "it's now or never".
The LSU playbook is thinner now I think. LSU has lost Jefferson's mobility on rollouts, sprinting to the edge, QB draws etc. One of Kragthorpes favorites is the "naked" as he called it. QB does a short rollout: if the defense plays pass he tucks it and runs, if they move up they leave someone open. We may lose that with Lee. Lee is a better passer but more reckless that Jefferson. Also losing Russell Shepard takes away a weapon. Dworaczyk out don't help either. I'd rather have ALL our players.
Well, of course, we would rather have all of our players, but that is not reality. If the playbook is thinner, but the execution better, then what is more preferred? If Lee gets the ball out to the receivers faster, they actually catch it, the chains move, and that continues, then it opens up our running game. If we are successful with our running game, then Lee will have more open receivers, and our passing game is actually a threat. Give me that scenario over roll outs any day of the week. I am not saying rolls out are not an effective weapon w/the right QB, but I would prefer a more basic offense w/good execution over versatility w/ poor execution of the actual passing game. The sky is not falling. Trust CLM to have the team ready, Krags/Stud to have a good offensive plan, and Lee to step up as a SR and execute the gameplan. This situation w/JJ, while not ideal or desirable, has certainly made it all that more intriguing and exciting (i.e. anxiety-provoking). It will be interesting to see how the team responds and overcomes.
Will be interesting to see what a slimmed down Lee can do mobility wise and running an option play. I don't expect to see it much, but not sure if it's totally dead either.
Indeed we have. On the other hand, Jefferson is trepidatious on the pass while Lee is audacious. This gains us a bunch of plays that get the ball into the hands of some athletic receivers. A little bit of that and and the linebackers that had been crowding the line to guard against Jeffersons legs will have to back off and watch that tight end and the crossing routes. That will give our running backs more room to romp. I'm just glad we have a week to work on a new script.
Thanks for posting the video Izzy. Lee really does throw a pretty ball. I have high hopes for this young man this year. He has fought through so much and he's held his head high and refused to transfer out of the program. He's stuck with us and, in turn, we as fans should give him much respect. Lee is a fighter. :crystal::geaux::crystal::geaux::crystal:
Adding to that, we all know Les wants a ball-control, smash-mouth offense that wins time of possession and shortens the game. In that video, Lee completed numerous quick slants that turned into nice gains, and he hit his TE several times. Moving the chains is going to be a big factor next Saturday against the Ducks. We need to pound the ball, hit a few quick slants, use play-action, hit our TEs a few times and keep our offense on the field. And I really hope Lee gets hot and throws for 190-200+ yards and a TD or 2. :crystal::geaux::crystal::geaux::crystal:
My take on that J Lee vid Lee is not afforded much time to set up by our offensive line. Hence, the poor mechanics which have plagued his career. Many of the throws were rushed and thrown into double and triple coverage. The recievers dont have time to run their routes before Lee comes under pressure. Many of the catches are spectacular. Most of the yards came after the catches. The O line has to step up in the pass protection department. Lee has all the tools and potential to be one of the elite QB's in the SEC. Not sure how much time he has had to practice with the first team but IMO when he gets the timing right by week two or three I think we will be treated to something special. The running game and defense will carry us against Oregon.
I remember one pick 6 TD in that dreadful season was a miscommunication between JL and the young TT. So I am praying that this round that gets shored up. With him presumably get more reps with second teamers this summer, and now with the second teamer receivers having to step up with Shepard's ineligiblity for the Oregon game, the passing game hopefully will turn out to be stronger. Beyond the first game, I can only see the passing game getting better.
and if we run successfully those quick slants should be wide open for big gains with the safety up in the box
